Depends on compatibility, and the quality of your water care regime. 3 might be excessive. Do some research on individual species.

Depending on the type of Anemone's you are planning on getting, They range in max AQUARIUM size from 6" to almost 2'.
I had a Long tenticle Anemone in a 75 gal REEF tank that I had to bring back to the LFS because when it was fully open, it took up about a quarter of the tank and was stinging some of my Corals, When it was in the store it was opened about 8", in MY tank it opened about 15" within about a week.
Check this site out and DO some research on other sites but I would guess about 3 to 4 would be max in a 50 gal tank.

Remember that they have to be fed and most need good light, so good lighting and good Bio filtration are a must.
I would get rid of the mechanical Ehiem, Add a good skimmer and add about 30 small blue leg hermit crabs and about 30 assorted snails to do that work, LESS work for you and they will probably do a better job.
That tank will look COOOOOOL with a few Clowns in it.
Sounds good, Good luck and enjoy.

It i more of a matter of what kind. Some anemones cannot be kept with others in a tank.

I have 9 in my 55 mostly carpets, hatiens and a very large redbottom.

Lighting is going to be your key issue here since different anemone prefer certain lighting. Research the types of anemone you want to first ensure they can coexist, secondly be sure the water quality and lighting are in the same range.

What kind were you thinking of?
