I went to a different LFS yesterday and now my head is spinning!

My 55 gallon tank was set up using 55 lbs live rock (14 lbs base rock). I intend to get the live rock up somewhere around 75 lbs. I have two powerheads and a hang on protein skimmer with biological filtration (Bak Pak CPR). I was told that that would be all that I need for filtration.

However.... yesterday I went to a different LFS and the owner told me that I will need to either by a wet/dry system or hook the fluval 405 (that is on my tropical tank) up to the saltwater and get something less for the tropical.

The lady that I have been dealing with discouraged me from using the fluval with the salt water (unless I turned it off when feeding) - she said my little critters at the bottom may not get enough food.

Please help, I am ready to cry:( I have spent so much money and just when I was getting ready to add fish I hear this! All I have a tank full of rocks!

I went to a LFS (never been to this one before) and the guy tried to sell me the whole shelf full of chemicals! My tank is a 55 gallon with 55 lbs live rock, coralife pc 4x65, no fish or soft coral yet, but I hope to be adding these soon.

Please help!

I have a Whisper 5-15 for about a month and a half. I went to walmart and got some new cartridges just in case. The tank looks pretty clean although some algae is starting to grow by the heater.

I want to breed my Bettas but I don't have space for hundreds of the little things once they get large enough to require separation from each other. I don't want to flush, freeze, or sedate them. I would rather cull them in a more natural way by feeding them to larger predatory fish. I apologize if this offends anyone. My question is which predatory fish is best to use? I know an Oscar would be good, but I'm looking for something a little smaller. Any suggestions?

I've had a 5 gallon aquarium for one month now. I have about 3 too many fish that I am going to give away within a few days because I'm learning the hard way about overloading a tank.

The problem is that the filter cartridge (with the filter bag and carbon pebbles) was clogged and the water was not flowing through it. The water actually pushed up through the cartridge compartment and over the tank glass onto the table. I tried rinsing the original filter but that did not help at all.

I bought a new box of replacement filters and changed the entire filter (frame, bag, and carbon). I am doing some research now and found that it's not good to change the entire filter media.

How should I have done this so as to not disturb bacteria or stress the fish?

I have a 10 gallon tank with a filter , heater, and one betta in it. Does the tank need an airstone or something that makes bubbles for breathing? I am new to owning an aquarium.

I have a male betta in a 10 gallon tank and I noticed that he's been scratching his body against the rocks, which is a good indication that he has a parasite. I have 3 java ferns in the tank with him. Will it harm the plants if I add the meds to the tank? Or should I remove the plants?

I need help deciding which supplements to buy... I am in the process of stocking a 55 gallon marine aquarium. I am not sure how much info is needed, but I'll provide everything I can think of that may be relevant.

I have 55 lbs of premium live rock (14 lbs is base rock). The live rock was harvested from an aquaculture site and was in my tank within 24 hours. I do not have fish nor corals yet, but like xenia, star polyps, and racordia (forgive my spelling I'm new to this). I have hard well water.

Thanks so much!

I was planning on getting a 30 inch light fixture by All Glass Aquarium Company here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200085794129&rd=1&rd=1 on ebay. There are two 20 watt light bulbs, but the seller told me that the UL tag says 30" Fluorescuent Twin Tube Aquarium Refletor 60-watt 60HZ. I had gone on the All Glass Aquarium website, but there wasn't anything on wattage of the fixture there, only everything else about it. The seller said that he asked some people if it was the reflector that gave it more power. One person said yes, the other said no. The seller seems to know what he's talking about, figuring that he sells a whole bunch of fish supplies on the ebay, and he has 100% positive feedback. How many watts is this really? It would help if someone had this fixture, although the chances of that are highly unlikely. This auction ends really soon so I could really use some help. Thanks.

I have African Cichlids. The ph in my tank is a bit higher, since that is what they do best in. Unfortunately, the plecosamus algae eaters were not doing well so I got Chinese algae eaters, I believe. I only have 2 in a 30 gallon tank but they already ate all the algae! They guy at the pet store said they might start sucking on my fish if they don't get enough algae. I tried wafers thinking it made more algae but all it does is dissolve in the water before they even notice it! How do I make more algae in my tank?
