Like most fish Goldies chane color as they grow. If this is a young fish then he is probably just coming into his adult colors.

If he has black coloring on him then he was recently exposed to high ammonia levels. The black is similiar to us bruising. The fish s simply healing.

Chances are the fish will keep changing colors until he has reached a good 4-6 inches or so. Every Goldie I have has changed from the time I got it.

Sometimes they just revert to "carp colors",as they mature.Probably feeders that weren't bred to live much past bite sized. True fancy breeds should maintain a gold color throughout their lives.

It may be getting sick. If the color is black could be an area that is healing.
