Fish - March 2007

I have 2 betta fish, and they both live in seperate small glass plant vases, with plants in them, and all they both seem to do is swim up and down the sides of the glass. Is this normal, or are they sick or what. Im not sure (they can't see each other, there not close enough)

I was on vacation for 1 week and I left my fish with one of the 7-day feeding cubes. When I came home 2 nights ago I found my fish laying on the bottom of the tank. I cleaned his water and he just lays there. He's not eating and every so often he'll try to swim to the top. Then, he just falls to the bottom. This morning he fell on his head and then just laid on his side on the bottom. I'm not sure what to do and I'm afraid he's suffering. His color is dulled and he has some gray around his head and body. Please help if you can.

Ok heres the tank Set up

10 gallon Tank

4 danios

5 "large" Neon tetras (I still think they are tiny but there were bigger then the "Small" ones)

I go to bed and all the fish are there I wake up and one of my danio has gone missing. I looked in the little tower to see if maybe he got in there. but nothing. I looked in the filter even though its virtully impossible for any of them to get in there. I looked around the fish tank esspeciially near the back because the only opening he could of jumped out of was the hole for the filter. Not there

Is is possible that my other fish ate him? and why, near as I can tell they are all healthy, none of them of seen the Hannable movies, and they are all basicly the same size.

so all the other fish would of had to gang up on him on order to get him, because none of them would of gotten him in one gulp, and even so wouldnt there be....bits of him left?

I looked as much as I could and I see not a sign of my poor little Danio.

I saw an earlier question about adding salt to a freshwater tank. I've always heard about doing this with livebearers and for disease and was wondering if someone could explain to me what this does and how it works? websites would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

My goldfish is about 5 years old and has been acting regularly for the past years. This morning though, we found him floating on the top of the tank, thankfully still alive. He was breathing normaly and could just barely move around. Immdeietly, we took Pepper out of the tank and isolated him in another one, so the rest of my goldfish wouldn't get infected. Still breathing, he was stuck on the top of the tank, bellied-up, barely moving. Sadly, I had to leave for school but once I had come back, he was lying on the bottem of the tank, unable to get to the top or move around. Despretly, by talking to him and tapping the glass carefully, we have gotten him to move around a little. We added some antibiotics to the tank, and gave a little bit of the treatment to the other fish just incase. What's wrong with my beloved Pepper, and what can I do to help him?!

I have to research shrimp. Not as a food, but as an actual creature i.e. where it lives, what it eats, physical characteristics, you get the idea. But the problem is the only sites I get are on eating, cooking, or catching them. Please ,can you give me a site that i can use for the report? And I already have wikipedia, but I need at least 3 sources. Thanks in advance!!!

They are translucent in nature, 6 legged, hyperactive, approx an inch and one half long with dark brown furry like feeler appendages on their backs, long like antennae on the end of their torso, kind of a cross between a crawfish/earwig thing. What on Earth could they be?

I went to Petco and had the "expert" there help me put together an aquarium. With his help I purchased a 5 gallon aquarium with a filter system, 2 2 inch Golfish, 1 3/4 inch goldfish, & 2 algae eaters about 1 inch each. I have an air pump hooked to a decoration in the tank and used jugged distilled water to fill the tank. Now everyone on here is saying I have too many fish and that my algae eaters will starve. Petco boy said they would eat what the goldfish do. Who's right?

The intake on my filter can be placed low, by the gravel or higher up in the tank. It's a 55 gallon and I prefer it higher so my bigger bottom feeders have more room to swim on the bottom. Do you know of any differences of having the intake higher as opposed to lower, or visa versa?
