Ok heres the tank Set up
10 gallon Tank
4 danios
5 "large" Neon tetras (I still think they are tiny but there were bigger then the "Small" ones)
I go to bed and all the fish are there I wake up and one of my danio has gone missing. I looked in the little tower to see if maybe he got in there. but nothing. I looked in the filter even though its virtully impossible for any of them to get in there. I looked around the fish tank esspeciially near the back because the only opening he could of jumped out of was the hole for the filter. Not there
Is is possible that my other fish ate him? and why, near as I can tell they are all healthy, none of them of seen the Hannable movies, and they are all basicly the same size.
so all the other fish would of had to gang up on him on order to get him, because none of them would of gotten him in one gulp, and even so wouldnt there be....bits of him left?
I looked as much as I could and I see not a sign of my poor little Danio.

two nights before I was gone and so the fish light was left one for 24 hours, I couldnt get a hold of anyone else in the household to turn it off for me, but I turned it off as soon as I got home the day after.
Its possible they all got murderously cranky.... I suppose

I hope neons are not aggressive, because that's my next batch in my tank. As for him disappearing, I have eight danios in my tank right now (just danios, my tank is cycling). When I first put them in there, there was one danio that immediately hid and didn't come back out for a few days (he probably came out to eat after dark). A couple days after introducing thses fish, I got a little worried because I had not seen him in a while. I decided to go hunting. I poked around in all the plant life in the left side of the aquarium and didn't find him. Next I poked around the plant life in the right side of the aquarium, and just as I was about to give up, I saw a small bit of movement at the very bottom of a large rock formation just above the gravel. He was still alive and swimming, just very VERY shy. Now I'm happy to say he usually comes out in the late afternoon to play and always to eat and play in the water stream during water changes.
Basically, he may just be hiding where you can't see him. I tried looking around a bit before actually poking around deep into the tank before I found him. If you haven't seen him after two days since you last saw him, then I would suggest starting to do some extensive investigating to find him.
If your tank has been set up for a while and these fish have lived there a while, he might have jumped out like some of the other answerer's have said. I only recited my story to let you know he might by shy, but I don't think that would be the case if he's been there a while.

If the danio was happily swimming in the tank and not in there the next morning, there is only one answer. Sorry to tell you but it jumped out of the tank and landed on the floor someplace. It probably flipped around for a while so therefore moved from where it landed. You will undoubtedly find it against the floor molding or someplace and it will be as dried up as an old stick. Danios and many other fish are active and do jump out of the water. It had probably jumped out before but was lucky enough to land back in the tank. Make sure that you have your tank covered. I once had a fish manage to jump out through the little space in the cover where the heater was hooked up. "One in a million shot doc, one in a million". Just make sure the tank is properly covered (screens are available for the purpose) and the rate of suicide among your fish should drop to zero. Good luck.

It is absolutely baffling! Trust me! I know! At my last job, I was in charge of taking care of the salt water tank and a clownfish came up missing. I looked everywhere. On the floor, behind the tank in case he jumped, which he couldn't have, but I looked anyway. I took literally every single piece of shell and coral out of the tank and shook them hard. Nothing. I tore apart the filter. Nothing. I rummaged through the sand. Nothing. I knew he was somewhere, but for the life of me, I could not find him and I didn't know what else to do. Well, about a week later, the tank just got cloudy as heck, just like that. I knew it was my little missing clownfish, now dead and rotting, but I still had no idea where he was. Again, I tore apart the tank, and again, shook everything. This time, a sad little fishy skull fell out of one of the shells. I felt so bad. I swore the next time if this ever happened again, I would break every shell if I had to to make sure I found the fish. Your fish may have eaten him, but they aren't aggressive type fish, so I just can't imagine it. This is yet another one of those baffling things. I wish I had some answers!

First, if your fish was a "jumper", he could have "flopped" away from the tank before he went to the big aquarium in the sky--did you look under nearby furrniture?
I had a tank of these once where I worked. Six were fine, but one liked to "swim upstream" into the top of the filter - no clue why. A few times, he managed to get beneath the sponge media (this was an old aquaclear filter). There's no room between the sponge and the sides of the filter, and the intake had a guard to keep fish getting sucked into it. We started calling him "Houdini".

i have tetra fish too they aren't the happiest fish and they do eat other fish in case you didn't know so maybe your poor little danio got eaten. I'm sorry. Oh and usually when fish eat something they usually eat it all (till it's gone)
