I had my goldfish for 1 year now and I just got a new tank with filtration system. It's really an upright 10 gallons vase tank. Last night a friend gave me the new fishies the peacock in tiny 1.5'' x1/4 the texans are about 2"x3/4" the goldfish is 3". So far they seem all at peace with each other. I don't know much about this type of fish. so please advise thank you

My worry is that all the other answerers are scaring you away from cichlid keeping! My main issue with this rag-tag bunch of misfits in this 10 gallon tank is that they have different requirements. The major one being that goldfish do better in cooler water and the cichlids you have do better in warmer water. This difference effects their metabolism in a way that can be harmful for them.

Goldfish already tend to be very dirty fish and when you have them in heated water(you would have to keep it at least 70 F for the cichlidsif not 75 F) it would make them even dirtier. If you keep the cichlids in the cooler water(goldfish are better off in the 50F - 60F range) their bodies metabolism are not going fast enough to fight off diseases.

The next thing thing for me is that eventually these fish are all going to be too big for a 10 gallon tank(even if they were by themselves!) the peacock and the goldfish can get up to 8 inches in leangth and the texans up to one foot!(and you have 2 of them!)

So this is where I would get into compalibility. I factor 2 things here, the water the temp I gave above, and the temperment. If we get all of the other stuff out of the way. There wave been many times when a goldfish grows up with (normally) aggressive cichlids and they live in harmony. But all fish are unpredictable once they become sexually mature. It's not that the goldfish don't have an aggressive side, it's just that cichlids sometimes fight dirty! lol! Choose well

Problem 1) Goldfish will be killed by most cichlids, and are cold water fish while the cichlids are tropical

Problem 2) A 10 gallon tank is much, much too small for the cichlids - the peacock needs 30 gallons or more, the texas needs 50 gallons or more

Problem 3) Even if you get a bigger tank, the chances are the Texas will kill the Peacock. Mixing New World cichlids and African cichlids will always work against you in the end. (Cichlids are not very aggressive as juveniles like yours, it comes out as they mature, and then watch out!). In fact, if you do want to keep cichlids you should really research them first and learn - they have needs and requirements that you obviously have no clue about. Check out www.cichlid-forum.com for plenty of information and keep them responsibly. They are incredibly rewarding fish to keep, when done right.

Cichlids will eat your other fish. They need to be kept seperate in a different tank.

No, ciclids do not get along with other fish and once he gets big enough, he'll kill him. Ciclids need to be kept separate.
