Flying fish swim at high speeds towards the surface of the water, and JUMP out. They also have specially adaped fins with which they use to glide and gain a little more distance... kind of like a flying squirel or lizard.

Looks to me like they were flying very close to the water, but more of a flight than a jump.

the "jump" more than "fly" but they do glide in the air, which makes it look more like flying than a jump
