I need a lot of help. I bought a new betta (after my first one died) and at first he was doing great. One day I decide to add a thermometer on the outside of his tank and realized that the water temp was below 64 degrees because it was placed near a window with a draft. So I moved his tank to a not so sturdy plastic stand with pull out drawers. Well every time I opened the top the tank shook a lot and my poor betta would go crazy, swimming around the tank at top speed. Now he stays at the bottom of the tank under his castle all day. And gets scared when I even come near the tank. I moved him to a better more studier spot but he won't come to the surface to eat. He hasn't ate for 4 days or more. I'm really worried. What should I do?

I would like to know what kinds of plants, aquairum temperature, and PH would be best suited for Tetra's. I have a fish-less aquarium (just gave away all my catfish) and would like to set it up with plants & a healthy environment for Tetras instead of catfish (anything goes and no plants).

I think Shubunkins are too cool, but I'd like a little bit of variety. Furthermore, I don't like the bubble-eye goldfish, or the plain feeder fish type of goldfish. Also don't want mollies (ich), and I guess most tropical freshwaters are out anyway because of the pH. If I'm not interested in fish over $5, what am I left with?

My male guppy died, found him one morning stuck to the filter o.O along with one of my tetras. well, female is doing fine, but this morning noticed that there was a single guppy fry swimming around *i cant catch him and put him in the breeding nest, hes too fast but he seems to be doing fine, not alot of fish in the tank and none of them seem to be bothering him* i put my female guppy in the breeding nest but she doesnt seem to be giving anymore birth. is one fry normal or did the other fish eat them?? o.O if this guy lives i shall have to give him a very heroic name.

I have heard anywhere between 1 to 3 inches but that sounds like alot. Also, how often should it be cleaned or is there a mixture of fish and plants that would allow it not to be cleaned & self-sustaining?

I've had a tank setup with flourite for a couple weeks now, and there are some dead leaves on the substrate that are starting to decompose. Its flourite, which seems to be a very cloudy material anytime its disturbed. Should I use a gravel vaccum in it, or is there some other preferred method of cleaning a flourite substrate? Will the cloud forming nature of the flourite eventually go away the more I vac it? Does this remove nutrients for the plants?

i have a 55 gallon. some people say that u need 10xs how many gallons u have, which here equals 550gph. but the renafil star xp3 canister filter has 350gph, but it says its for up to 175 gallon tanks.but people say that this filter works really good and they have like 150 gallon tanks. i don't get it , HELP! what filter should i get? do powerheads accually filter or do they just circulate the water? i was thinking either the renafil star filter xp3 (350gph) or the aquaclear 901 powerhead (935gph) HELP!!! any ideas?

I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank which has been established for a few months. I added 8 various African Cichlids and a Blue Lobster. The next morning the room its in smelled foul. I opened the tank and the water has a very sour smell to it. Does any one know what this is and is there anyway to remove it?
