If your guppy is with a male guppy or recently was, then you can be sure it is pregnant.
Otherwise, you'll have guage mostly by the size of her tummy, because in dark or solid-coloured fish, it is harder to get an accurate idea of pregnancy based on the gravid spot - because you can't really see it. As she gets pregnant, she'll get much, much bigger - near the end of her pregnancy, her stomach will look almost square.

The "gravid spot" darkening is actually the sign that the guppy is pregnant. It will grow large and darken as the fertilized eggs develop. Closer to delivery time, the spot will be nearly solid black. Some say they are even able to see the developed babies within the gravid spot, but this isn't a clear fact.

I just wanted to add this fact for an OMG! I'm just glad human women aren't this way!!!!

"A female will produce fry on average, once per month, even if a male isn't present in the tank. If the female has been with a male even once, she will have fry for up to 6 months after one mating."

your guppy probably is pregnant, that's usually the way you can tell by the gravid spot. females can store sperm up to six months so when you bought them they would have been in with males. if i am not mistaken guppy's are oviviporous meaning they have eggs in the womb that turn into young before birth much like some sharks. if you have other fish in the tank then its a free for all, including the female guppy. put plenty of hiding places and plenty of plants
