(Not sure of the proper name for this fish but he sticks to the aquarium)...do I need to buy different food for him? He is in a 29 gallon tank with 2 small goldfish and 2 snails. I am not sure what I need to feed him...

I also have two algae eaters for my tank. You don't necessarily have to feed them anything special, since they will eat the algae that builds up in your tank. You can, however, purchase supplemental food for them. Try algae wafers. These wafers are made up of vegetable material that is good for them. You just drop them in the tank, and your algae eaters will munch away. I feed these wafers to my algae eaters every few days or so.

They are called plecos....but they are actually members of the family Loricaridae.....I have a gibbiceps and a bushy nose. The algae wafers are a good choice to put in there at night when you tuirn the lights off...I also put ROMAINE lettuce and zuchini.......they make special clips made out of only plastic to clip the zuchini to the side of the tank...and the lettuce...I jsut push a whole leaf down into the gravel.....looks kinda like a plant in there...well..I guess it is...hehe.....ya..they love it....cichlids like it also.........you should also have a piece of driftwood in there......they "rasp" or naw on it......it's a good source of fiber and it is an excellent medium for growing algae!!!

p.s......FYI - they don't like salt

Yes you do need to buy food for it, the probably isn't enough algae in the tank to sustain it. I can't remember the name of them either but I do know what you are talking about. They have dried algae squares, it's called algae eater food or pellets.

certainly it relies upon. chinese language algae eater certainly do no longer devour algae after growing to be to be adults and could surely attack sluggish shifting fish, yet yet another excuse to no longer get them is they choose warmer water. Plecos do purely devour algae however the PH levels of your tank would kill it.

Well they are called Plecostomus aka pleco. They eat algae from inside the tank walls and gravel. If you feel that they are not getting enough algae you can give them algae wafers.

if you have algae built in the tank not much else
you can get him algae wafers
but he will also eat uneaten flake food that makes it to the bottom

more than likely you have some form of pleco, the more common ones will grow to over 10" and i had one that was over 14"

you should get him some algae disks. You can get them at any petstore. Just drop one in at night when your go to bed because they are nocturnal and only come out when its dark. Also, you can try giving him some zuccunni*. I gave a thin slice to mine and it loved it! But be careful, if you give it too much, it will make your water cloudy. Good luck!

P.S make sure you have some hiding spots for the pleco

It is probably a Pleco and you can buy sinking algae wafers until some algae starts to form in your tank!
