I have a almost 8 month old yorkie/toy fox terrier and lately her whowho has gotten very big and I noticed a bit of blood on it last night, but it was gone this morning. Does this mean she is in heat? When did the heat start - when her whowho got bigger or when the bleeding started? If she cleans herself constantly will she give herself an infection down there or in her mouth? Is there anything I should do to help her through this time or do I just have to let it "run its course"? I am supposed to get her spayed on the 22, if she is in heat will I have to push the date back?

I adopted a large German Shepherd from the pound a few months ago. I have another GSD and they get along great. The new dog barks excessively when I am not home and is driving the neighbors crazy. I tried the Citronella collar - which sprays citronella at him when he barks instead of shocking him. This is not working at all.
He is driving hte neighbors nuts and I feel terrible for that. I need to fix this asap because they are at their wit's end. He is a big strong, sweet dog.
I have been to many training classes with the other dog and have NOT come across any effective method of training for barking. I am not there when he barks - how do you train a dog not to bark when he never barks in front of you?
IN any event, if you have experience with the collar could you please share it with me.

I have been reading of late several people who know they should spay or neuter their dogs but don't!
I would like you to tell me "Why"? Is it the cost? Is it because you like to have your female go into heat and then don't know what to do? Do you like having your male marking it territory all over your house?
Are you afraid to have it done?
Give me your thoughts on this.
Thanks!
Oh just to be fair, I will say at the right age.

My 9month old male Sharpei/retreiver mix is booked in to be neutered tomorrow.

I have now started to worry that something may go wrong, how likely is this?

Has anyone had anything happen to their dog whilst being done?

She is about 20 lbs and she has thick hair, she is a wire fox terrier breed. I like to conserve energy so I don't want to have to have it up high, but I don't want my dog to be cold either, thanks

My puppy just turned 6 months on Saturday. Sunday she went into heat. She was schelduled to be spayed today but I've been told to wait until her heat cycle has finished. How long after should I wait?
The bleeding isn't too bad - she's just leaving a spot here and there. She's also peeing ALOT more than usual and it has a strong odor- is this normal? I feel so bad for her as it's obvious she is feeling miserable (clingy, tired, whiny) - is there anything I can do to make this all more comfortable for her?
I just want to know what I can expect for the next few weeks and what I can do to make her comfortable. It was never my intention to have her go into heat in the first place hence the surgery appointment!

I am bringing a VERY,VERY scared dog home tomorrow that i adopted from the animal shelter, she's a 3 year old jack russell terrier. she was SEVERLY abused.
well i have four other dogs (a pomeranian/chihuahua mix, a poodle, a rottweiler/german shepherd mix and a labrador retriever border collie.) well i want to know
how i should introduce them to eachother?
I know it's hard to rehabilitate a scared dogmy rottie/german shepherd mix was badly abused to he had gasoline poured on him and he had third degree burns
because two stupid kids decided to light him on fire.
My pom/chi mix was also badly abused they would throw her down steps, beat her etc. i know how to work with scared dogs.
i work at my local Animal shelter with the scared dogs, so i know how to handle that. Everyone at the shelter told me it would be best for me to take her home
because i know how to handle scared dogs... im just asking how to introduce them?

Some friends of ours decided to take their dogs along with them to our home, which we were excited about at first. But one of their dogs really got violent and went for our dog. I didnt think too much of it at first, but I see now two days later she has a small puncture like hole on the side of her face, just below her mouth. Its not too big, or very deep but it has some puss coming out of it so we're keeping it clean.
Is this something we should go to the vet for do you think? All our dogs have had their rabies vaccines so Im not afraid of that. Vet trip or are we worrying too much?

Hi, I am helping out a local shelter with a questionaire...plz answer honestly without prejudice....
Do you or have you chained your dog to a box, tree, pipe, etc. 24/7? IF you do why? or Why wouldnt you? State laws are beginning to go into effect which could charge families with animal cruelty and neglect/abuse for chaining dogs.(some states already do, but don't enforce) How do you feel about this topic. If you chain, will these laws stop the way you house your pet? Do you think SOME chained dogs benefit from being outside 24/7?
Thanks,
Just honest answers would help me out..either way..
Thanks for your time...

I recently bought a blue cattle dog pup from a registered breeder. He was eight weeks when i bought him and was white with two black ears and a bit of black on his face. I now have had him for six months and he is still white. His father was a lighter blue but still a nice colour, his mother was red and all is siblings were really well coloured red and blue dogs, but he had the best personality. Will he colour up or stay white?

My 16yr old son called us at work, crying. Sal's under the porch and he's hurt real bad. We rushed home and brought him to the vet. Our 3 yr old beagle died. The vet said he was hit by car. We brought him home, and buried him. It didn't make any sense. He's only gotten loose once here when we let him in the front door. He went out the back. He "beagled" it in the woods a couple hours ,and came home. This time a clasp came undone on his run, who knows how. My wife found a broken light on the dirt road in front of our mobile home. She asked the land lady if she knew anything. She said it was her son (38). Our dog, hit on our park rd. It's a 7mph speed limit. Its been two days now and not a word from him. Was kind of thinking he'd stop and say hes sorry and maybe explain to my wife what happened. So anyway, I saw him at his moms house today from afar. I dropped what I was doing and headed in that direction. He sped off Like, 30ish. That said alot. what should I do. Wife/ 3 Kids real sad.
