I've never heard of one living more than 20 years, but that's rare. It depends on the breed. The toy breeds tend to live a long time, the giant breeds might only live 6 or 8 years.
The average age is probably somewhere around 11,12, 13 years (for a healthy dog).

The two oldest dogs in this decade, were both 27 years old. One was a Border Collie, and the other was an Australian Cattle dog ( Queensland heeler) The oldest dog recorded was also from Australia, and lived to be 29.
The oddest thing about the two dogs from this decade. The border collie was raised Vegan, and the Cattle dog was raised solely on emu and kangaroo meat.. Funny how little we know about canine nutrition!

* "Popular myth" - popular myth suggests that "one dog year equals seven human years" or the like. This is inaccurate on two scores, since the first year or two years representing some 18-25 years, and the ratio varies with size and breed.
* "One size fits all" - for example this calculator, which suggests that the first two years equal 10.5 years each, with subsequent years equalling four human years. This is more accurate but still fails to allow for size/breed, which is a significant factor.
* Size/breed specific calculators - which try to factor in the size or breed as well. These are the most accurate types. They typically either work by expected adult weight, or by categorizing the dog as "small, medium, large".

It depends on the breed but most animals can live from 11 to17 if they get the right care and have a healthy gene pool behind them. Never feed food with soy and red colorings in them can cause cancer. Raw Meats carry paracites and steroids and hormones that can shorten their lives and possibly kill. Research safe foods and things not to feed like Raw Hide can be dangerous there are several foods that can kill-Grapes-Rasins-any Shell Fish-Chocolate-Tylonol. Ask your vet what foods are poisonous.
The more care you take and if their ancestors have had long lives the better chance they will to.

it all depends on the upkeep of the dog, smaller breeds live longer. Most smaller breeds can live to be about 18 ro even 20 years old. Large breeds maybe 13-16 years. Bulldogs(not pittbulls..bulldogs) live only about 11 year since they are like naturally fat and eventually their legs give way.

It depends on the breed. Mixed breeds and especially smaller dogs tend to live longer. I know cats can live till their early 20's, so I'd guess about 20.

Depends on the breed...and I've heard that smaller dogs live longer that the large ones. I know one that's been around for like 19 years...and still going. I don't really know what breed it is, because he's probably mixed.
