My dog is a LhasaPoo, his mom was totally white and dad totally black. OK his dad was actually LhasaPOo and his mom Lhasa Apso, so he's more LhasaApso. He's 7-months and is housed outside in our backyard - plenty of food(Iams)water, and room to excersize. But his fur is turning grey/white in certain patches and it looks so ugly! (No offense, Bubba lol) Ok this is the scary part; for the past like three months it's been this way!
half (front half) his back is curly and short, other half (the back half) is long and wavy.. THen in the middle there's a small patch of straight hair that parts in the middle like LhasaApso! Is it possible for him to have variations of fur colors and length and etc all his life? Or is this just a "puppy phaze" even though it's been going on for 3 months?
PS - please ask/answer according to my Q, not whether I'm doing the "right thing" keeping him outside.
(We're working on potty-training him right now, so please no more "YOU ANIMAL ABUSER YOU") TYA

The lady we bought our dog from told us he's pretty rare, as did some people that work at a vet.
I went into a pet store and asked about it, and they basically laughed in my face and said they get them all the time.
I've got a completely chocolate mini pomeranian.
Are they common or not so much?

I am really upset. My dog is in the hospital. He is old (13 years) and the vets say he has kidney failure. I don't know whether to prolong his life and bring him home after he is treated on IV fluids. Or choose to end his life now and not put myself through the agony of having to bring him back and euthanize him (what the vets are kinda suggesting). He is still is able to walk (although slowly) and hold his urine and all that stuff, but the docs say he could get worse. Also, the cost of meds and treatments may stack up. I feel terrible. What are your opinions?

I've noticed that animals that have been tortured, beaten, and abused always seem to find homes before any other animal that needs that home just as badly. People line up to adopt that cat that was burned in a house fire. They send money, cards, prayers to that dog that was thrown from a two-story building. I think that it's absolutely wonderful don't get me wrong, but what about those millions of other homeless animals? There's nobody lined up to adopt them. Many many people donate, but why is it that it normally takes a tragedy to convince them to help out or donate at an animal shelter? Why does that person that would never have thought about adopting a pet all of a sudden see that one animal that was beaten and decide that they need to have it. What does it take to have a shelter dog or cat adopted out? What can we do to make those other animals stand out? The ones that weren't beaten, abused... The ones that are just dumped at a shelter because they aren't wanted/needed anymore?

I should note, until 3 weeks ago hardly any fur dropped and both her parents do shed very little. She eats Iams and gets brushed 1-2x daily. Curious if this could be adult fur coming in?!?

I was told not to bath my new pup. She is nw 12 weeks old. She got quit dirty today. She is a Dachshund, and has long hair, and today got her ears in her food, and now the tips are all dirty. Also we took her down to the park along with our other dog, and she ended up somehow gettin into sap, and she got it on her face.
I was told though, that it is not good to bath a young pup. I heard they get scared, and their knees lock up, is this true??

Can I give my pup a bath??
Or will it hurt her in the long run?
I know u need to have the water, not to warm or cold, like a baby's bottle, and have a warm towel ready for her... sometimes from the dryer since it's cold here, and sometimes blow dry her on low, and ONLY use puppy shampoo, and to be careful around the face, and let the water run down, not up... But are those the only precausions??

Hi everyone, the reason for my question is because I'm wondering if there's some kind of regulation laws with neighbor's pets. Everytime we go outside to the backyard we can't do anything because the dogs in the surroundings yards will go off barking as much as they can. I'm not talking about just one dog, its at least 3, and it really gets annoying. What i'm trying to say is, is there like a law that prohibits that kind of parade each time we go to our backyard? I don't have a problem with animals, I have a problem with the scandal that's caused.

I wouldn't think so, yet I see it all the time. It seems that a bump or a swerve could cause the dog to fall out, especially going down the highway at 80 mph.

Are there any unenforced laws currently on the books, or is there really not that much a danger?

So my wife and I got our first puppy 2 days ago. She's never owned a dog and I've had 2 growing up. But the dogs I've owned have never been puppies... so this is a first time training all the basics for me :)

We're currious about the whining/howling she does and if we should allow it or not (and if not, steps we can take to properly train her to stop.

We keep her on a leash around the house since we want he to understand we're in control and we also have a cat (so the leash can help us introduce to two to one another and make sure she doesn't chase the cat). I work from home so she's next to me most of the day until my wife comes home.

Now, she howls and cries at night when we put her in the bathroom. The bathroom has her toys, potty mat, and a blanket for her. She'll howl/cry from anywhere from 10-30 minutes until she falls asleep. She'll also howl/cry if we tie the leash off and she can't reach us.

Is this ok? And if not, what proper way's can we get her to stop the hehavior?

I've seen several different products for toughening a dog's paw pads, and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for which product works best? We're going hiking on some rocky paths - we have boots for her, but she hates them so I'd prefer just to use them as a backup.

Hi! I have a great dane... he is 11 months. Periodically he limps... I took him to the vet and the vet looked him over and said it was basically growing pains. He gave me some pain pills and sent me on my way. My dog ended up staying with the vet for the weekend and the same thing happened... again the vet said, don't worry. Took no X-rays. Now my dog holds one of his back legs up, I give him a pill in an hour he seems better. Anyone have Danes and know if this is normal like my vet said? I'm worried about hip problems... are there signs I should be looking for? Thanks for any help you can give.

We have a 8mo old female Border collie. It is hyper, chews everything, and is unmanageable. Would spaying our pet calm it down? How long does this stage generally last? The dog is loving, but just too destructive!

My Chihuahua Abby will be 2 years old on Oct 25, 2007. She is a larger chihuahua - about 7 lbs. A little bit of family history - I have had her since she was about 10 weeks old. I have a schnauzer who was 4 years old when we bought our Abby so needless to say our schnauzer is pretty dominant (not mean) but weighs about the same size as Abby + approx 2 lbs. Abby goes to the door and barks or scratches the door to get outside. Sometimes she will even come get myself or my husband. When we're home she doesn't need to go outside very often but when we leave her out in the living area at home she will pee in the carpet when we're gone. If we put her up in an extra bedroom ALONE she can stay in there for hours and never pee! I know the answer is to leave her in that room while we're gone but I don't know the root of why she pees. BTW we've NEVER EVER caught her peeing! I'm getting frustrated because she can't even sleep with us without waking up and peein gin our bedroom :( I'm so upset!
