I suggest some reading. Chihuahuas often can't "Free whelp" - c-sections are quite common in chihuahuas, especially those under 5 pounds. You need to know how to help her if she has any trouble, and what are signs of distress when she is beyond your help and needs a vet's help. There is way too much I would need to tell you - it is a book's worth of information. I have put a link below to a great book - very short, written in normal language, not vet speak.
But quickly -
1. She needs a safe place to have her puppies - like a whelping box. Something about the size of a medium dog kennel will do. Put it somewhere quiet at room temperature. Do it NOW so she has time to get used to it so she uses it. Put lots of old shirts or towels in it for her to dig in.
2. You can take her temp every day (rectally) and when it falls below 100 degrees, she will give birth within 24 hours.
3. She will be very clingy when it is time. She won't want to be left alone.
4. Chihuahuas can often have shortened pregnancies, like 56 days, so be ready any time.
5. Have Nutra-Cal on hand to feed her in case she is in labor a long time.
6. Give her Tums or other calcium rich foods (ice cream) during labor - it will strengthen her contractions.
7. Have iodine or betadyne and thread on hand to tie off the cords in case she doesn't do it properly.

Our long-haired chihuahua has had 4 litters of puppies, ranging from 1 to 3 per litter. She weighs right at 5 pounds, so she's not a big dog. She has done fine with every litter. There's one thing about her though that you might be wary of.
Ours is a house dog and very loving. She has never so much as growled at anyone. After she goes into labor and delivers the first puppy, she will not let us touch her or the puppies while she is in the bed with them. We can pet her when she comes out of the bed, but she will snap and go crazy if we reach into the bed with her puppies.
As for preparing, I would make sure that she has had a bath and is clean since it may be a while before you can bathe her again. Fix her a box that she can get in and out of and let that be her bed. When you think it is time for her to deliver, replace her bedding with newspapers laying flat in the bottom. When she goes into labor, she will start tearing up the newspapers and you will know she is ready. It is wise to have the vet's phone number handy just in case something goes wrong, but all odds are in your (and her) favor.

Get on the internet and search pregnant dog..it'll tell you about putting together a welping box - you will need to check on her during birth - you may or may not need to help. When my dog had pups I had to cut sac and the cord for the last one cuz she was still working on one and it had been a few minutes. Anyway - you should be able to find a site that will tell you things to watch for that may single that you'll have to take her to the vet, etc. They do and should do most of the work but sometimes things happen..you should be prepared. Oh and have new newspaper and old towels ready - you'll have to change the bedding after the birth -
Also - Don't panic if you haven't takin her to the vet or anything - my amy is a chi mix and did just fine - the websites should tell you what to look out for to tell if something is wrong -how much time will be between each puppy and things like that -
People can be mean about breeding or even accidental pregnancy but **** happens and there is nothing you can do about it now so just concentrate on havin them puppies and helping to take care of them for the next 6-8 weeks - its alot of work but if you love dogs its an awesome site
GOOD LUCK

have a specific area for her to have her pups in and pretty much keep her in that area so she can get use to it.
I find a box is good and plenty of papers ( I have learned not to use blankets as pups can get caught up and lost and die)
I would get a tube of nutrical for extra vitamins.
at 60 days start taking her temp and when it goes to 99 or lower figure she should be having them in 24-48 hours ( I would let the vet know just in case of emergency)
Some chis with first litters won't feed teh pups correctly so I would suggest getting formula and bottles ahead. You can use the formula as well during weaning.
Have mom on puppy food until she is done weaning the pups for extra nourishment.
Any other questions feel free to email me at kathy_decaprio@yahoo.com

You need a whelping box & set it in a quiet room. Has she been checked by the vet ? I hope you are able to be with her when whelping nears. Chihuahuas often have trouble whelping and a lot of them need c-sections. I hope you got money saved up for expensive vet bills. You should have done research before breeding.

Dogs give birth all on their own. I would just give her a safe/private place to do it.
Now, let's talk about spaying your dog, and/or no kill shelters for you to give up the puppies when you can't sell them...
