YES YOU CAN!
If there is no flea shampoo available you can use head lice shampoo instead. I think that head lice shampoo is more effective. Its the same type of ingredients, but its stronger. I think that flea shampoo is too weak and watery.

Dogs DO NOT get head lice. Lice cannot cling onto their course hair. Your dog most likely has fleas and if you are seeing white stuff- it is dry skin. Use Frontline for the fleas and use a dog shampoo with oatmeal in it for the dog's dry skin.

Do not use a flea medication from the grocery store (companies such as Hartz/Zodiac) because this medication has been linked to hundreds of animals deaths due to the harsh chemicals they use. Use either Frontline or Advantage from your vet and some pet stores.

Why would you want to use a head lice medicine on dogs?

Head lice are very specific to humans. They only live on humans and are transmitted from human to human contact.

Dogs generally get fleas, not lice. They are two very different critters.

Your dog probably has fleas, not lice. I'd say consult with your vet. It's a bad idea to use medicine made for people on dogs.

My cousins husband's is a vet. To get rid of fleas or lice on dogs, take a small bucket (5qt) and mix 2 tablespoons of liquid lysol with water and bath them. This is basically the same thing the vet will sell you in a small vile, AND a bottle is only about $2-$3.

I believe so. Don't quote me on that. First be sure it is lice and not fleas. The best human (over the counter) lice medicine is RidX. However, it may be worth a trip to the vet if you have a few bucks to spare.

Human head lice is not transferrable to dogs, so your dog can't have lice, so why would you want to use lice medicine?

I wouldn't without consulting with my Vet. Why do you think your dog has lice? Usually they get fleas, ticks but seldom lice.
