No, not a coincidence. Its called Prey drive and all dogs have it in varying degrees. Your dog wanted that birdie and he got it!

Was it coincidence? Probably not. Why was your dog allowed access to the canary? I'm not saying it would be entirely your fault. The canary, I assume, was loose too. This type of occurence should have been preventable.

It probably was just a coincidence, dogs like chicken and your dog probably got confused.
Just get the neighbors a new Canary, they will never know the difference if you get them one that looks exactly like the other one.

Oh geeze, with that new info I think you are in trouble unless nobody seen the incident. If no one saw what happened, just don't tell them. Don't feel too bad about it that bird probably had a few kills under its beak too.

He didn't eat the canario- he pressed it down with his paw.

Duh- don't you know what these dogs were made for?

Sheesh- next you'll think Setters don't just plop down on things.

EDIT: When I worked at the pet store we got our canaries from a woman with a heavy Spanish accent and she called all her birds "Leetle Jello Canarios."

It's nice and sunny outside. Find something else to do besides playing on the computer.
