Heat normally lasts 3 weeks. She'll bleed for the first week. Then the second week is when she is most fertile and receptive to breeding, and the third week is when she's going out of heat. To be safe, you have to keep her away from males for the whole three weeks. Don't let her play in your yard -- only walks her on a leash.
Everything you have described sounds pretty normal. Her mood may change during this time and seem more tired and depressed. Some are hyper, but mine was depressed. Don't worry, after the heat she will return to normal. There's nothing you really need to do for her except keep the males away!
I waited a month or two after my dog was in heat to spay her, but you don't have to wait that long. You can spay her after 3 weeks (and some vets will do it during the heat). Whatever your vet recommends will probably be fine. The only reason some vets don't want to spay during heat is because the operation is a little more complicated because there's increased blood flow to the area.

Her heat Cycle will last for approx. 3 weeks. At that time you will be able to have her spayed. Maybe that is a good thing she went into heat one time.
The strong odor is normal. Just love her and pay alot of attention to her. Don't take her outside alone as all the male neighborhood dogs will be all over her.
Good Luck!

Keep her confined and tell your vet that you want her spayed after her heat is finished. Your vet will have a good recommendation. Do not let her out of your sight without confining her well - the last thing she needs is to get pregnant. Give her lots of love - as I'm sure you usually do. The peeing and odor is normal as part of heat.
Good luck!

this happened to my beagle. go to petsmart and get her a diaper, or else she will stain your carpet. i gave her a heating pad and a lot of attention. my vet spayed her about 2 weeks later. i know i had to pay more though. good luck, and make sure you love her up =)
and don't feel bad about having her start first, my dog ate the morning of her surgery some grass outside and threw up so the vet wouldn't do it....by the next appt, she had started

Poor thing!
About all you can do is ride it out- and watch her closely. The odor is normal, and every single full male dog within the area will be interested in her.
Good luck!

if you are willing to pay a little more, the vet should still be able to spay here even if she is in heat. if they refuse, then just make sure that you are with her at all times while outside.

careful around the ten to say 14th day since the start of the season because that is the most fertile time. she will not be bleeding by this time. I give my girls homeopathic remedies to help them through this, pulsatilla sounds right for your little one if she is gentle, loves affection and needs you. or Sepia if more independent and outgoing. 6c three times a day for three days shoud help.
