I recently bought a blue cattle dog pup from a registered breeder. He was eight weeks when i bought him and was white with two black ears and a bit of black on his face. I now have had him for six months and he is still white. His father was a lighter blue but still a nice colour, his mother was red and all is siblings were really well coloured red and blue dogs, but he had the best personality. Will he colour up or stay white?

The breeder died and her family don't know anything about blue cattle dogs

The coat of a cattle dog should show an even disposition of colour, save in the coat patterns of 'speckle' and 'mottle'. These two patterns (which show in both red and blue versions of the coat) are less common. A 'speckle' is a dark coat with a heavy roaning of white speckles, almost in a reverse spotted pattern. A 'mottle' is a light or white coat with regularly-placed denser areas of dark colour showing up as spots. Both of these coat variations are considered unusual and uncommon, but acceptable by breeders

It is possible that he will stay white, but he may get flecking as he matures, Cattle dogs can also be pure white, but these dogs are normally destroyed as about 85% are deaf or blind or both, Cattle's are not the only breed that an have pure white young with the same problems, Boxers, Australian Shepherds, Dalmatians to name a few, but as he has some colouring don't stress about that

I was of the opinion that a blue cattle dog was only grey or reddy tan. But your's maybe something different. Best bet would be to enquire from www.AKC.org

its quite likely that he will keep his colouring that he has now... most dogs stay a similar colour to when they were puppies...there are some exeptions, but it is not too common for dogs to simply, change colouring...somtimes older dogs get grey hairs..but young dogs dont usually change too much as they grow... although i think a white cattle dog is awesome..its somthing different and i think they look very cute white...

I spose anything is possible. We have a white Border Collie, very strange to see it the opposite of the normal black BC.
But I have heard they are bred in Melbourne. I have never personally seen another one though.
We get so many people ask about his colour.

Why didn't you ask the breeder?? She should know her dogs better than anyone.

He shouldn't be,but it happens,I guess. There are faults in every breed. This doesn't mean that he's a bad example of his breed, except for in the show ring, where he would probably be disqualified.
