I treat my maltese/shihtzu with a spot on treatment every month. I usually bath her for fleas first then completly dry and groom her, finally i put the treatment on the back of her neck. Doing it this way has always been successful, but i was in a hurry with the last treatment and i didn't bathe her first. I finally bathed her today and i found three small fleas on her?? FOUR days after treatment! Aren't these spot-ons supposed to work without needing to bath? Or is it time to switch brands?

I'm wondering if after the first freeze, are fleas and ticks still a threat to my dogs? They have yet to have any problems with either. Monthly treatment is used on them.

My Vet (like many others) recommended I feed my dog a Hills Precription diet. I did for a couple months and my dog hated it. I felt good though thinking I was giving my dog the best food available. Why would my vet recommend anything else?

I then decided to do some research and found a couple websites that rate dog food. Guess what? Hills is at the bottom of the barrel, the very bottom. I also found out that vets recommend Hills because they get a kickback from the Hills company. I found out that for the same money, or just a little extra, there are many superior dog foods.

I now feed my dog Merrick dog food (the top of the barrel). My dog gobbles it up, and now I know I'm feeding my dog the best.

I'm wondering if I need to take him to the vet. There is one particular area he loves to graze. I have seen previouse dogs I have had eat grass, but this guy seems to eat it every time I take him out.

Are dogs capable of sticking with a mate for life? Seems common sense, being mammals like us, but they do not take care of their young for long either

I took my dog to a doggie camp today. They claim that they screen other dogs for aggressiveness before they let anyone in. When I came to pick him up, his ear was torn and a good chunk of flesh was missing from the above his eye. I asked a caretaker about it and she said that there is nothing wrong with that because Weimaraners have very thin skin, much thinner then any other breed. Is it true?

I saw a woman walking a dog the other day that looked like a white version of the dog "Sprocket" from the old HBO show "Fraggle Rock". I asked her the breed of the dog - I guess that annoyed her b/c she mumbled something like "spumoni" and quickly walked away. This dog looks like a muppet!! It is so cute - about the size of a labrador with long scraggly hair. It almost looks like a labradoodle, but much cuter. I consider myself very knowledgeable about almost all breeds but I can't figure this one out. Thank you!

Hello everyone,

My chocolate lab, Sequoia, eats EVERYTHING!!! She has recently started eating rocks. A few days ago I did a yahoo search about this and came across a site where a lady talked about a medication you can give dogs to coat the lining of the stomach and make things slippery so rocks can pass. I didnt write the info down and now I cant find the site. Does anyone know the name of the medication I am talking about? I know about pumpkin, thats not it. This was a prescription you get from your vet.

Thanks!

We live in an apartment complex and one of our neighbors got a Puppy. We weren't sure exactly where the new dog was but then had further evidience it was nearby when it was left out in a storm that lasted hours.

The dog has been left out through atleast 3 storms now.

We do have Patios in back in our apartments, but when I checked up on the dog.. it's owners have coated everything in straw and not given it a shelter.

The dog buried a hole so it could get out, under the fence, and posibly under the cement on the patio. They have put bails outside the patio and moved all the haye to fill the hole, plus covered it all with the bails.

So the Puppie's makeshift shelter plan has been foiled ( not that it would have helpped).

We have had neighbors live animals out when temps dropped below freezeing and in nasty snow storms that hit a couple animals were reduced to popsicles :(

So any numbers I can call when things start to head that way AGAIN?

We just got a 8-9 week old poodle mix puppy about 4 days ago. We have been trying to crate train him for about 3 days now. At night he sleeps with us but during the day when me or my boyfriend are are work or school, hes home in his crate. WE have never left him in there for longer then 2 hrs.We live in an aprtment and of course the walls arent that soundproof. I know he is gonna wine and cry, but he SCREAMS sooo loudly u can even hear him outside. You would think he'd stop but he doesnt he constantly screams and tries to get out. Then when he stops for a few seconds i let him out since hes calmed down, and then he goes right to sleep? I leave him food and water in there, treats, kong with penut butter, toys, and a shirt that smells like me, but he is not at all interested I would like to know if anyone else experienced their dog SCREAMING and not stopping for long periods of time? And how long did it take for them to stop (i know all dogs are different i would just like an estimate)

I have an American Bull dog, that just kind of wandered into our lives, we call him "Stranger' we keep him outside because we have 3 other dogs in the house. He is well fed, I go out and play with him for about an hour each day, and he is just as silly as can be. The problem is he won't go in his dog house when it is raining. How can I get him to understand that it is warm and dry in there? I have tossed bits of food and stuff in the house he will go in and get the food but stiil won't go in when it rains.

I rescued him when he was eight weeks old. This picture is of Beep wearing his new custom Halti. He is two years old now and a very good dog agility dog. He is very fast and can have a houndish sounding bark sometimes. He also has a little brindling on his front and a hind leg.

She is getting worse, it only happens when I leave and even then not regularly. She is other wise and angel, I sprated the stuff that has chili in it but it makes me cough and her retch.
I know you are not supposed to punish them if you don't tem actually doing it but like I said it is only when I am gone- I have even tried setting her up so as to catch her in the act but it is so random but when it happens it is BAD!

He is about 11 years old and I've grown up with him.
I dont want to put him down, but I don't want him to be in pain.
Is there any medication for dogs that I can give him?

We just brought home another stray and we are not sure what breeds he might have in him. Here are some pics of him and to describe he is medium haired length, would even say short at the moment, he is pretty stocky, black with tan markings and even a little white on his back paws. His brothers and sisters were mostly black with a little white on a few, he was the only one that had tan. He is approximatly 8 weeks old currently about 7lbs, he is extremely dosile but very alert.

My 2 year old jack russell is currently experiencing some problems with her ears. They're nice and floppy and fold over to face the front. Where the fold is however on both ears, her skin seems to be very dry and some pieces seem to have come away. When I'm playing with her she yelps, so they're obviously hurting her. I cannot afford to take her to the vet for another month and do not qualify for PDSA emergency care, so I was wondering if anybody knows what might be the problem with my Tinkerbell and/or any solutions?
