My 2 year old jack russell is currently experiencing some problems with her ears. They're nice and floppy and fold over to face the front. Where the fold is however on both ears, her skin seems to be very dry and some pieces seem to have come away. When I'm playing with her she yelps, so they're obviously hurting her. I cannot afford to take her to the vet for another month and do not qualify for PDSA emergency care, so I was wondering if anybody knows what might be the problem with my Tinkerbell and/or any solutions?

Could be a bacterial or yeast infection. You need a vet and meds for that.

Try changing her food. Corn, wheat, milk, soy, beef and chicken cause skin problems. More natural diets can help. Look into Innova, California Natural, Artemis, Wellness and Canidae.

Leave it alone for now. By treating it with "over the counter" remedies, you can make it worse.

She needs to be seen by the vet. It sounds like some sort of fungal or bacterial infection -- dogs don't cry out in pain for the fun of it or to get attention - only when they hurt and pain indicates that there is something wrong. There could be a number of reasons but honestly there is no way of knowing via the internet regardless of your description and that is why she needs to be looked at by a veterinarian. See if you can find a vet that, like someone suggested, take payments or if you can borrow the money and see about asking around to see who the least expensive it ... sometimes others in your area can suggest vets that can help but she does need to be seen as anything anyone could tell you to do could actually do more harm than good. Good luck.

Your dogs obviously has and issue with the skin other ears, if it were to be something it would all over not just the ears, Go to walmart and buy this stuff call Utterly Creme, and put this on his ears, just need to keep the skin moist,

another this is he could possible have ear mites and scratched their so much could be also the cause,

hope this helps some

TAKE IT TO THE VET!!! Find a way to pay for it. Im sure that any vet would rather you take in your dog now and pay later than wait until the problem gets worse. At the vet hospital that I work at, we allow patients to pay later if they have to. Unfortunately, most vets are closed on Sundays, so you may have to take your dog to an emergency clinic. If its really hurting your pet that badly, you should consider it.

Sounds like she has a VERY bad infection going on. I would borrow the money or set up a payment plan and get her to the vet ASAP it is not good to let her suffer like that. Her yelping is her way of telling you she is hurting.

If you can't afford to take her to the vet, start by calling the vet & describing the symptoms. Our vet has given us advice over the phone before.

I would take her to the vet and see if he will take payment plans or use a credit card. You really shouldn't be letting your dog suffer for another month just because you can't afford it.

Could it be mange? I really don't know much more than that it irritates the skin, causes hair loss, and it is little parasites that can infest an animals' skin and make them miserable. I suggest doing a search for more info.

A phonecall to a vet wouldn't cost much, and you would get some actual sense. Don't direct medical questions at Yahoo - at best you'll get no answers and at worst, you'll get the wrong ones.
