I have no real opinion on this but it seems to be a very heated topic. It's almost as bad as the pit bull topic.

They are not 'pets' -- they are a mix of a wild animal with a domesticated one -- usually done by people who are wholy ignorant as to temperament and health and the breeding of canines. It is just another gimmick that people do to try to make a buck off of animals... No one that knows what they are doing would produce such animals and certainly not sell them as 'pets' to silly people that feel the need to make themselves feel some sense of self by what they own. Wolves are wild animals and when you take wild animals and try to exploit them, you are simply asking for problems. It is hard enough keeping BSL out of areas - they don't need to ban the dogs or the wild animals but the idiots exploiting them out of ignorance and greed.

I say that no, as long as the person passes an dominance test first. Wolf hybrids are no problems- as long as they are treated correctly. If someone gets a hybrid and is an extremely timid person or doesn't like discipling dogs, guess what, they are going to get attacked, and wolves or hybirds are more likely to take advantage of that fact to move up in the "pack".
If you have a dominant person, who has worked with dogs for years and knows how to handle them, a wolf hybird would be fine, and a very intelligent pet.
I have raised wolf pups for a zoo I work at, and wolves are extremely intelligent, but need a lot of room to run and need to be treated correctly. A wolf putting their jaw around your arm, for example, can be a sign of respect, and not agression. They react differently to discipline than dogs.Wolves usually will not come when called (unless they want to) and also tend to run off and ignore you after a discipline (but stop the behavior), instead of a dog that sulks afterwards. A hybrid could have both traits from a dog and a wolf.

People just need to be responsible and understand that while it would be an awesome pet- it is not the best one for everyone.

I do not believe that Wolfdogs(wolf hybrids) should be banned. I agree with others that there should be restrictions on the so called breeders that are trying to make a quick dollar. Wolfdogs can be wonderful companions. When you really get down to the nuts and bolts of the issue, then you have to understand that every single dog that you have ever loved came from a wolf ancestry.

Pit bulls can be very loving, and they are usually not vicious if they are raised up right. Only pit bulls who have been raised by humans since they were puppies are aloud as pets. I think that that rule might be good to apply to dog/wolf hybrids. Dogs are actually what domesticated wolves have become over many years.

I dont believe they should be banned, but they should be regulated. My cousin has 7/8 wolf hybrid (he rescued/stole from an evil abusive owner) who is absolutely the sweetest. But sometimes he can act out. He takes special care and consideration. I dont think they are appropriate pets in most situations but under the right circumstances they are wonderful. There should be restrictions and licensing but not an all out ban.

I don't think they should be banned from owning but I do think they should be banned from breeding them intentionally. I also think you should have to obtain an exotic animal permit to own one that is more than 1/4 wolf simply because not everyone is suited or has a living arangement suitable for a wolf or wolf hybrid.

Wolves are wild animals. There are enough unpredictable tame dogs under the care of people without introducing that into the mix.
I don't know if banning any particular breed is really the solution, but I do think people should be held accountable if they own a dog like a pitbull or rottweiler or others that have a propensity for violence.
Many owners of those type of dogs say that it's not the dog, it's the owner and the way they're raised.
If that is the case, then they should be in favor of strict laws holding people responsible for their dog's behaviors.

I have a neighbor that has one and he is just the sweetest dog. There are also a lot of really nice sweet pit bulls. I don't think they should be banned but I think people really need to consider their family situation and their ability to spend the time to have the animal properly trained before getting any dog.

I'm almost positive, that in Arkansas they are already banned, and against the law to sell them. Anyways in the small town of Arkansas that I live in it is, I don't know if it's against the law for the entire state, but where I live it is.

Just thought I'd add, I'm not against them, I've never owned or been around any to know their temperment or anything like that.

NO, NO, and 100 times NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:>(
I have owned over 11 wolf hybrids in my short life. They are great dogs. What some may say about them being evil, crazy, untrainable, and so on, is just untrue. Its just an excuse that was made up by bad dog owners who have bought one, and had know idea about training and what not, and just blamed it all on the dog. If they had bought something like a Labrador or Golden Retriever, they would have most likely have had the same result in how bad their dog turned out.
Wolf Hybrids are wonderful, friendly, loyal and loving dogs, that people are scared of just because of made up myths and rumors.
I would trust my wolf hybrids with children of any age, they won't hurt anyone.

In Australia it is illegal to have a dingo or a part breed as a pet, pure dingos you can have if you have a special permit. I personally know a couple of pure and x dingos and they are beautiful dogs. I think the main reason they do it is so that we still have the pure strain of dingos and wolves to carry on. you have to admit, it would be sad if we lost all the pure ones
