I took my dog to a doggie camp today. They claim that they screen other dogs for aggressiveness before they let anyone in. When I came to pick him up, his ear was torn and a good chunk of flesh was missing from the above his eye. I asked a caretaker about it and she said that there is nothing wrong with that because Weimaraners have very thin skin, much thinner then any other breed. Is it true?

Take your dog to the vet, get the injuries treated, take pictures of the injuries and talk to a lawyer. this will insure that this will never happen to another dog!! Also, since there is obviously flesh that is missing, i would request records of all dogs that your dog was with and request proof that every dog there had a rabies shot.

Well dogs ears have very thin skin anyways, not limited to weimaraners. I wouldn't worry about it but weims do not have thinner skin then other dogs, i mean i know others kinds of dogs that have much thinner skin. I personally have 3 weims and there skin doesn't tear easily while rough housing like that. But weims can be clumsy and there skin does tear sometimes. I think so other dog played to rough there so i would not let your dog go back there if the other dog still goes there. Sorry about the wordiness im writing this when it is very late. but i hope i have helped

That is a bunch of BS.......I own 2 Weimers and they do not have thin skin at all......I've read books and articles on them and have NEVER read that once. They are trying to cover themselves and hope you don't want recourse, which you should. That is ridiculous that they would let that happen and then act like it is no big deal. My dogs skin is quite tough actually, although they have short hair as you are well aware. This will probably leave scarring which I would be irrate about, you should ask for them to cover vet bills and for damages. By the way, you have bought yourself one of the very best kind of dogs you could possibly get, congrats!!!

Think of it this way. Weims were bred to be hunting dogs. Would a dog with extra thin skin last in the field? No. The dog would constantly be getting cut up.
I would not take your dog back to that place. Also, I would call them and let them know that they should be a little more careful. More careful with supervising the dogs.. and what they tell people. i hope your dog heals quickly.

Find out if the dog who bit him has his shots and take your dog to a vet and then send the bill to this place. Weimaraners do not have thin skin, just as one person said, a hunting dog would not have thin skin or they would never last in the field. These people are tring to cover their a**es.

NO. Sounds like your dog wasn't properly supervised and was allowed to have been attacked by another dog. Weims have soft coats, but not "thin" skin.

That is absolutely not true! Your dog wasnt being watched and another dog got ahold of him. They just told you that so you wouldn't get upset with them!

Sounds to me like a fancy excuse for not watching your dog while there was a fight going on.
