My dad raised beagles from the time I was a little girl. We grew up with beagles around our house. What do you need to know?

They are active dogs...they have lots of spirit and energy. They aren't dogs that can just sit around the house. They need exercise and attention. They are originally hunting dogs and have unbelievable noses. Their sense of smell is highly sensitive, some say more so than other breeds. They will dig, chew, and chase if they don't have an outlet for their energy.

Other than Labs, beagles are great family dogs. They are smart (too smart for their own good LOL) loyal, sweet, loveable dogs and are just wonderful companions.

I hope this helps. If you need more info, let me know.

Does that help?

One of my four is a Beagle. They are a very easy going dog that loves everyone, of course the other three love everyone also, a Chi/Rat Terrier mix, and two APBTs. The Beagle is the most laid back. If there is the slightest noise the Rat takes off barking with the Pits following close behind. The Beagle will lay there and ignore it. If he does think it is really something to worry about he joins in. His hound bay is something to behold.
He is the clown of the family, always doing something funny. When it is feeding time and I have his bowl in my hands he walks next to me and takes one step and then jumps over feet into the air to the food. A real chow hound. You have to watch how much you feed as the can get fat overnight.
Great lovable dogs.

Be patient and consistent. Puppy kindergarten and obedience classes are a must. What, specifically, are you looking for advice on?

Don't encourage barking in any way at all.
