Hello everyone,

My chocolate lab, Sequoia, eats EVERYTHING!!! She has recently started eating rocks. A few days ago I did a yahoo search about this and came across a site where a lady talked about a medication you can give dogs to coat the lining of the stomach and make things slippery so rocks can pass. I didnt write the info down and now I cant find the site. Does anyone know the name of the medication I am talking about? I know about pumpkin, thats not it. This was a prescription you get from your vet.

Thanks!

I don't know either about anything more than a dog's natural mucous production or oil to try and ease things through.

It can be fatal so it is important to keep an eye on her. Some dogs will eat rocks and not just pebbles or gravel and require surgery .

Here is an article about pica. It may be caused by stress in his life, boredom or even hunger either real or imagined.

Supervision is the only 100% way of preventing this. Walk her on a leash and tell her "no" if she tries to pick up a rock. We just did surgery on a lab mix last week that ate a handful of small rocks and could not pass them or vomit them up. She needed nearly $1000 of stomach surgery.

Eating rocks can block up their stomach.. and cuz death... so why take the chance of ur dog passing them?

I have a Lab.. and they will do this out of complete boredom or not enough exercises, they tend to get nervous when their masters are gone..
I took all the rocks out of his area.. as not to swallow any..

call at vet.. they will no...

I haven't heard of anything that helps with this either. I have a close friend that has two labs that eat rocks too. She has also had to have them into the vet for surgery. Her vet didn't recommend any meds either.
