He drinks a lot of water after he eats too. Worried about bloating.

I have had many dogs in my 65 years and some dogs eat fast some don't. I have a Beagle that I would bet can eat his food faster then yours, he is a chow hound. Unless you have had a problem of your dog getting sick from eating so fast I would say don't worry about. Like I said I have had, and still have, fast eaters and never had any problems. Let the dog do what is right for him. Would you want someone to come in and tell you that you eat to fast or slow? Don't worry.

Put large rocks in the bowl with his food. Ones that are big enough that he won't eat them! hahaha It tends to slow them down having to push the rocks out of the way to get the food. Also if you have a good lawn, you can feed him in the grass :) You can actually train him to track that way by dropping his food into the grass of each footstep and he will have to sort of burrow a little down in the grass to get the pieces of food and will have to use his nose to find them... but that isn't always something people want to do but it is a great way to start a dog in tracking! Most dogs drink a lot of water after they eat a dry meal -- usually that isn't connected with bloat -- latest studies on bloat show that raising the food/water bowls off the ground will actually increase chances of bloating and he needs 'quiet time' after eating too. Good luck...

You can take his food and sprinkle it along a long path in the kitchen so he has to move to eat it... you can feed him different size kibbles. You can leave the food out all the time so he doesn't feel like he has to bolt it before you take it away or someone else gets it... as far as water goes if he has access to water all the time he shouldn't drink more than he needs. Never let a dog drink after running hard they can get stomache torsion. If you think he's drinking too much with access to water all the time talk to your vet, there are a couple of conditions that dogs can get which make them thirsty on a constant basis and your vet can help you with that.

Raise the food and water dish off the floor. Try purchasing a small stand, and sitting the food up on it. When they have to reach to eat their food, they don't inhale as much air, or eat as fast. Try the same with water. Eatting to much, to fast and then drinking to much water, to fast can sometimes lead to bloat. Which isn't good. This should help though, it worked for my dogs.

And probably has nasty gas as well afterwards. Old trick is as somebody above said is elevate the dish for a larger breed dog. And to get them to slow down, for a few days put some decent size rocks; yep, rocks in with the food so he slows down and eats around the rocks rather than gulp the food. And will also get rid of the gas problem.

Take the amount of food he eats daily and divide that same amount between two or three smaller meals.
In addition, between meals you can give him a Kong with a tad of peanut butter and healthy dog biscuits stuffed inside.
Have a few Gallileo type bones around for him to chew on.

there is a bowl you can purchase with a raised ridge in the center that helps to keep them from eating too fast. Or you could take a couple of bowls and make one yourself by supergluing one to the bottom of another upside down

There are bowls you can get that have raised areas in the middle so a dog has to eat around the raised areas, it slows them down.

I often give my dogs meals in a "Buster Cube". It's stimulating and fun because she has to roll it around to get the food. Only a few pieces come out at a time, so it prevents the dog from eating too quickly.

Put his food in something like a tricky treat ball so he has to work for it, pushing the ball around to get the food out.
