Dogs - September 2007

Her neck is irritated from her collar. I can't quite figure out if her collar is too tight or too loose, which will help me to prevent the irritation in the future. If anyone has a rule of thumb for collar placement, that would be great. Anyway, can I just use Neosporin or something like that to help her neck heal?

My mom's pug keeping circling himself then licking his penis. he will get up and walk a small distance, circle himself a couple times then lick on his penis again. He cannot stop doing this and I am afraid he is suffering/irritated. urinary tract infection? HELP!!! This is definately not a sexual thing, it is a constant irritation for the dog.....

My dog's eye....ummm i think its infected.It has some kind of green stuff (looks like a booger) coming out of his eye.Also he twitches alot and wants to close it but he cant.....what do i do?and what is it?

Also,his ear is FULLED with some kind of black stuff.It loooks like dirt,but when i try to clean it he starts to cry.What is it and what do i do?

Ok spare me the lecture, they are not my puppies and the people they belong to were already extensively lectured by me. It happened its over, now I would like to give them advice on what to feed the mother to keep her healthy and producing milk for her pups. Yes I know there is a pet overpopulation problem and I don't agree at all... it was an accident the mother is being spayed and there's nothing else I can do. Any advice about nutrition for the mother and tips about whelping would be greatly appreciated.

ok well along time ago we got a chihwahwa that was female and she was 5 yrs old

i went with when we got her and she hated every one
but by the time we got home she loved me

and the dog was soposto be my dads b/c we alredy had 2 chihwahwas

one was mine and one was my moms

then the new one (baby was her name)
started protecting me

and followed me every were

she would not let any one near me

what is wronge with her
is she like in love with me or some thing
i kinda like the attention form her and i love baby but she doesent love my dad?
id donno it confuses me

(I'm asking this question again because I don't think I gave enogh info) She gets so scared that she pees, and it doesn't matter if she knows the person or not. I got her when she was 7 weeks old and she is 10 1/2 months old now. I take her for walks 2 times a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. And I try to take her to the beach or the park 2 or 3 times a week and she does fine. The only time she gets so scared she pees is when she sees baby strollers ect. (things she doesn't see often) but that doesn't seem to happen as often anymore. We always have alot of people over but shes just never got over it. But I feel so bad for her because she is such a sweetheart and I want other people to see how sweet she is.

Hi. I'm looking for a groomer to use in Vernon Hills, Libertyville, etc area. I have four German Shepherds, all trained well and polite to be groomed. Would prefer someone with a great deal of experience and professionalism. Petco/Petsmart ok, but looking for anindividual person to work with within store if a chain. What should I look for in a groomer? I'm scared to leave my pets with "strangers" but really would like to connect and with the right groomer for monthly brushing/baths/nails/ears. Thanks for any advice.

My mother inlaw has a 11yr old Basset hound that she keeps mainly in her garage, in a kennel, that she never lets out and he has had some seriouse aggression problems with her and her family. I have a 2year old daughter who has been raised with my child friendly dogs, and has never had a reason to fear or be scared of my dogs. Last week, I was attacked and dragged down to the ground by her Basset hound, and it scared the mess out of me. A few days later my husband went up there to feed him, and he approached him wagging his tail and then attacked him too (my husband grew up with this dog). Now I have a seriouse issue with allowing my daughter to go up there, and I'm being called vindictive and unreasonable by my husband and his mother. Am I? I am a Vet tech, who worked with military working dogs, and seen the results of K-9 aggression first hand and don't want my 2 yr old to run the risk of a bite or mauling. I simply stated I don't want my daughter up there with that dog...

Judge was amazing when we took him. The only reason he was running to get out and back to the car was because the whole place smells like dogs, and Judge is agressive toward dogs out of fear. He was really nice and didn't bother the other dogs that were there amazingly. When he got his shots, he didn't cry or anything! AND he had to get three. Actually he looked more annoyed, because the vet's assistant was hugging him tight and giving him kisses to make him feel better lol. Afterwards, he got some cookies, and he smelled them suspiciously to make sure there was nothing wrong with them, then gobbled them up. He did incredibly well, especially since we didn't get a chance to bring a stool sample and they had to make him give one. Plus there were blood tests and other things, so he had a rough time. Yet he was wonderful there!

How can I get my 3 dogs to stop barking when I'm not home? They will hear other dogs in the neighborhood bark, and it gets them going. The problem is that if I'm not home, there is no way to get them to be quiet. How can I train them not to bark if I'm not there to stop it. I've thought about using a bark collar, but would prefer other means if possible. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Oh my goodness its been two years since Iv'e had a dog and my parents are finally letting me get one!! I am getting my puppy October 14th, so I have about a month before I go and get him. When should I buy things like supplies and a crate for him? How soon before I go and get him? By the way he is a male Scott type American Bulldog!!!! Praise God!

We took our puppy out 2 times this weekend for his first walks. Both times we were out for 1 or 2 hours and he didn't do toilet once and yet as soon as we came home he used the garden. Any reasons why he didn't go when we were out? Also he barked or growled at everyone human or dog we walked past, why was this? He is a west highland terrier who is 12 weeks old. Any tips would be appreciated.

Two days ago we got a dog that is almost 2. We decided to see what happens if he goes outside without a leash. The dog took off, was chasing cars and took 1 hour to get the dog back. So now it is a hassle because we have to find the dog and hold him whenever someone opens the door. What can we do to get him to not leave the yard when outside? He almost got hit last time. Could we get one of those invisible fences, would that work?

ok my 1 month old puppy died, out of all 5 of my 1month old puppy this 1 died. it was so horible it made me cry so badly and i usually dont ever cry. ok my puppy all of a sudden this morning seems like it frozened, like it got paralyzed. it wouldnt move, it look super mega depresed and its only move it ears rarely and blink rarely also. it make this weezing sound very slowly and softly and its fur got real thick. so the vet was closed today and my mom left it out for awhile to see if it gonna be better. 30 minutes later i came to check on it, its body was cool(coldish,but not so cold) and it mouth was opened and it eyes was opened it it didnt blink, i would feel its pulse or heartbeat , so its died.

anyone knew what hapeneed? i dont ever wat this to hapen to my other 4 dogs and my mom told me she think it might havce been a snake that bit it.

I live in germany and I would really like to find a breeder here that I can go see the puppies myself. All of the breeders I have found are in different countries. Please help. I am so desperate. And I can't adopt cause the adoption places don't adopt to americans. And they don't have pet shops out here because they are inhumane. Please please help me :-(

She knows basic obedience as well as how to play dead, jump rope, skateboard, roll over, shake, wave, play patty-cake, beg, stand up on her hind legs, speak, back up, open and close doors and retrieve things. She also knows how to jump through hoops and pick up her toys. I don't know what else to teach her and the school talent show is coming up!
