We recently adopted a 13 week old French Mastiff and she is painfully skittish around my husband and I. I dont think she has had a great deal of human interaction in her first 3 months. The only one she seems to feel comfortable with is my 15 month old son. (Im sure because when my son crawls they are the same size) Her shyness is making it quite difficult to housebreak or train her because she runs away when I go to either praise her or take her outside after an accident. We already love her and wish we knew what method is best for gaining her trust. HELP!

they have grown longer then usual because she hasnt been spending much time on concrete to where them down.

All my Australian Shepard's life she's been eating her own poop. She's about 5 now and I was wondering if it is bad for her. I don't mind because that means I don't have to go pooper scooping hardly ever.

I have a six year old german shepard / husky mix. She has always been in good health. I know many dogs have callous type spots on thier knees and elbows. But lately her little black callous has grown much bigger on her right elbow. It has some redness to it, is puffy, almost spongy to the touch and a little crusty. It does not seem to hurt or bother her at all but I am a little worried about it. Any insight as to what it could be?

can it be anything more serious than allergies? these are intense sneezing fits too, he sneezes maybe 7 times very quickly. sometimes he has a couple sneezing fits! he's a slightly chubby australian sheperd/border collie mix, about 80 lbs, but he gets lots of exercise.

I have just been engaged in a debate over the word 'adoption' vs 'selling' dogs. I was saying that when most people 'sell' dogs it's for profit and 'adoption' is basically breaking even. I was trying to argue that responsible breeders don't 'sell' the non-show dogs in a litter to 'make a quick buck' but to try to break even for the money spend on the parent dogs, medical, shots, etc.

They were arguing that shelters and rescues are just 'selling' dogs too and trying to make a profit- that they are businesses and I was saying they are non-profit organizations. The adoption fees are just trying to cover their costs.

How do the responsible breeders feel about this? Backyard breeders breed to maximize profit. I understand that. Do you breed for profit?Am I a chump for buying into the 'better the breed' mentality? Are shelters out to make a buck?

Anyone else's opinions?

I have a 2 year old chihuahua and want to give him a healthy diet. i am not sure but it may be that pedigree, iams and other brands are not that good. What should buy him that is not that expensive but is a good healthy diet??

Okay so i wanted a yorkie for the longest time
and this lady ( i suppose its a lady she never really gave me her number but both me and my mom talked to her over email) has 2 of them, that she is giving away FOR FREE.
im kinda sketchy about this, because usually these dogs run between 1000- almost 3000 dollars.
she says its because they have been apart of her, and she would feel guilty asking for money.
i have a yorkie already, and i really wanted two more to add to my family.
we already bought our airfares to the area she lives at.
i do not want to get a "sick" dog.
even though she said they are completley healthy,
and they are 4 months old.
What do you think about this, am i getting scammed?

She's part rat terrier and part miniature pinscher, and she's well fed so I don't think it's because she's hungry. But she's obsessed with trash! If I put it under the sink, she will whine and cry at the cabinet, trying to get in. Sometimes I'll see her dragging a sheet of xerox paper around! She doesn't beg for human food when we're eating. It's almost like she enjoys being sneaky and "naughty." What's up with her??

My friend's chihuahua is due next week with her first litter. She had diarriah a few days ago but is better now. But today her rectum is very swollen and she is walking around like she needs to make a BM and licking the area constantly. It is very painful to her. Do dogs get hemorroids? Any suggestions on how to make her feel better?

i have a 5 month old great dane puppy. he's usually a very hyper and all-in-your-face-wanting-kisses kinda dog.

ever since friday night he has vomited at least twice a day. the vomit is a runny brown liquid (assuming its dog food!). he has diarhea that has a couple solid chunks in it but the rest is teh brown runny liquid. there is NO blood in his poop (thank god).

he's not eating much at all and i hafta force him to drink. i've been feeding him ice cubes like crazy because he loves them.

he won't get up and play, he literally lays around and sleeps. normally when someone walks in teh front door, Duke is right there jumpin up and barking. but instead, he's been laying around doing nothing.

i'm kinda worried. If he's not better monday i'm taking him to the vet.

but if anyone has any ideas as to what it could possibly be, it'd be greatly appreciated!!

my poor dogs are out door.they eat sleep and drink out side
when i get home in the afternoon there are flies all over them. The stupied flies bite there ears till blood comes out. I put medicine on there ears and all over there body. they go away for alittle wail but the end up coming all over them again!!!!!how do i get rid of them!!!!!!!!????

What are some flavor additives for dog food? My puppy/dog will not eat his own food unless it has human food aroma in it. It makes it difficult to feed him because he will not eat on his own unless we feed it to him one by one.

Okay right now my puppy is currently feeding off dog can food and shes about 11 weeks. We are switiching the can food to dry food. Do we just switich or mix in the dry food with the can food and then later on switich totally to dry food?

I have a yellow lab and most of the time she's pretty good about fetching and/or retrieving. But sometimes I'll throw the ball or whatever and she'll just sit there like she has no idea what is going on. How do I teach her that this is a command like sit or stay and that when the ball is thrown she should go and get it?
