First, place a few fly traps around the area. I prefer the type that is sticky and hangs up, but the bags with liquid works too. Just be sure they are out of reach by the pets.
Next, I find that Avon Skin-So-Soft works great as a repellent. I apply it to the entire coat, and extra around the ears. I don't use stronger stuff like Off, because I worry about possible poisoning.v Since Skin-So-Soft is basically baby oil, It's much milder.

My friend uses fly dope, and skin so soft from avon. Seems to work for her. Can't say from personal experience because all my dogs have been inside dogs. Not that there is anything wrong with having outside dogs.

If you know there is such a problem that is causing your POOR dogs such discomfort, why can't you bring them inside?????????? It's not rocket science, after all. Flies are disease carriers, and it is not fair to keep your poor dogs outside all the time.
