What are some flavor additives for dog food? My puppy/dog will not eat his own food unless it has human food aroma in it. It makes it difficult to feed him because he will not eat on his own unless we feed it to him one by one.

i use bacon or pan drippings when i cook to give my dog a treat.
you can keep an old screw top coffee jar handy and keep in the fridge... fill with drippings and give a lil splash when you mix it up

Dry kibble already has flavor additives in it. They are sprayed with oil for 'palatibility.' Some dogs simply do not like some foods but will eat what they can get when they are hungry enough. Since he eats when you feed it to him, that does not seem to be the problem. He seems to have developed eating into attention-seeking behavior and is happy to have you feed him by hand.

Place the bowl down for 15-20 minutes. If he does not eat just take it up and toss it away. Repeat as often as you normally feed him.

He will get the idea fairly quickly. Going for a day without eating will not hurt him. Just make sure not to 'give in' and feed him treats.

Safe 'human' food is not bad for him. A little chicken, a little steak, a little fish without bones, some veggies add freshness to his diet. Some dogs like a little grated carrot or zucchini.

Instead of placing it on top of the kibble, bury it at the bottom of the bowl so that he has to eat through the kibble to get at it.

If it's dry kibble, try adding a little bit of water and heating it in a microwave for like 10 seconds. That will warm the food enough to increase the aroma.

If that doesn't work, there are some "gravys" that you can get at pet stores that are designed for dogs, but check with your vet first because they tend to be high in fat and you don't want to give them too much.

Buy a good quality dog food.. Put the food down and leave it.. The dog will eat it..You shouldn't need to be adding and trying to make food smell or taste better.. Our dogs eat up their kibble like it was steak or something. I don't have to add gravy or anything else. Put down the food, they eat it.. That's how it works..

I cook chicken for my dogs, and mix it with their dry food. I moisten their dry food with a little water and garlic powder. They absolutely love it!!! You can also try those doggie gravies to put on top. Try the garlic powder- dogs love garlic.

Your dog has you trained well.

Feed him 2x a day, morning and night, If he doesn't eat, pick it up and don't offer him anything until the next mealtime.

He will not starve to death.

try that dog gravy stuff by Iams, they sell it at walmart, or you can just do plain old gravy on top of his regular food. gravy mix is very cheap.
