I know that my dog is inbred and she is the sweetest, smartest little dog that I've ever owned. I wouldn't worry about that. Just get your dog spayed or neutered to prevent issues in future generations. My vet told me it's quite common and not to worry about it.

No they can't tell if it's inbred or not...if you bought a purebred and you got registration from a legit registry you can find out yourself just by looking up the pedigree.

After purchase is NOT the time to be worried about "inbreeding" this is something that needs to be addressed BEFORE purchase when you are researching RESPONSIBLE breeders.

Even if it has a defect or health issue it does NOT mean it was inbred..this can happen with outcrossing as well, especially when done by irresponsible breeders who don't do genetic health testing BEFORE breeding and who don't carefully research pedigrees.

Inbreeding in dogs is not the same as human inbreeding..it doesn't come with the same conotations..nature allowed for inbreeding among animals.

Mostly, the only way you can tell is if there is something wrong with the pup.

Inbred dogs are born with mis-formed brains and limbs, no eyes, and cleft palates. (inbreeding is not the only cause of cleft palate)
There are also very specific temperment problems that can occur.

If none of this is present, it's impossible to tell.

If you paid for a "pure breed" that now has problems, call the breeder. A vet can tell you if it's a genetic problem, and they can be held responsible.
BUT!
"Responsible" only means they will exchange the pup, not help you care for it.

EDIT:
Yes, a good vet can tell by looking if there is a problem. Is there a problem?
Why do you think it's inbred?

No.. If your puppy is inbred, you'll see it in your pedigree.. If your puppy is inbred.. What can you do??
It's not necessarily going to be nasty dog or a dog that can't learn..Might not be anything wrong at all.. Might never be anything you as a pet owner would see... Why are you so worried about this.. AFTER you have the dog?

There is really no way to tell without checking his lineage if he has papers.

Inbreeding is common in puppy mills. That is why so many pure bred dogs have health and temperament problems.

It's really buyer beware. This is one reason why many people just go for mutts when choosing a pet.
