I just got a yorky, his tail is very stubby and short, did they cut the puppy's tail off when he's born, and if so, why do people want to do that on the poor dog?

My new puppy won't stop chasing my cat. I LOVE my cat and am feeling so guilty about bringing the new puppy in. Now my cat can't even get to her food, water, and litter box without being chased back upstairs! What should I do? I am trying to crate train the puppy for when we are not home but it really scares and saddens me to see my cat so frightened all the time. I'm also afraid of what would happen if the dog actually caught the cat. I sharply reprimand each time it happens and praise the puppy when he ignores the cat.

My dog has always chewed his nails even though I regularly trim them. In the past I've caught him licking his legs (like where his wrist is) but nothing serious. Today I noticed he was chewing on his legs so I took a look and he's been chewing on his paw pads, so bad that part of one is peeling off.

He's never done been so self-destructive before i'm not sure what to do. I intend on calling the vet in the morning but what do you think it could be? I want some ideas so when I talk to the vet I can have some information already.

I don't think he was doing it out of boredom, I was home so it wasn't sep. anxiety (although he does have that). We had a party last night so I did mop the floor and spray febreeze on the couches but that was yesterday, he didn't do this until this evening, more than 24 hours later, so I don't think it was the chemicals from that. Plus, I've used those chemicals before and he's never done that.

He's a year and a half old, any ideas are welcome!

We just had our 1 year old male German Shepard neutered about 5 days ago, now his testicles are about twice as big as normal. Will this swelling go down and when? Can we give him anything for the pain?

I gave my dog her first Advantix treatment yesterday. Well today, she was eating a Greenie and it got all in her fur. Is it okay to go ahead and bathe her?

i have 2 female schnauzers from the ages of 5-7 months. they REFUSE to house train. they will be fine for about an hour and then decide to use the house as their personal toilet. i am ready to tear my hair out!! we just got new carpeting not too long ago, and i'm at the point of getting rid of them if they can't control themselves!! we have a male bulldog and shcnauzer also... just a side note, i've never had a problem housebreaking my male dogs, but my females are always a HUGE problem!!! what can i do--aside from getting rid of them?

For those who said to take my dying dog to the vet, this is why I haven't. I was hopeing someone could offer an immediate solution. Of course I'm praying that he lives through the night so I can get him to a vet somewhere tomorrow

first off, for those who didn't see my last question:
my pup is 5 months old, normally very hyper. since friday he's been vomitting and having diarhea. no blood in either one (yet). he won't eat or drink. i get him to drink a little here and there and eat ice cubes. he's lethargic and won't get up ad move around. i have to literally pick him up to make him move around.

the on call ER vet told me to feed him white rice and boiled chicken. if hes not better tomorrow, take him to your vet.

well..Duke will NOT eat either or. i even put the pieces in his mouth, he spit it out. he vomitted (for the 3rd time today) again. its teh same runny stuff he's been vomitting. i told the vet his gums are a pale pink. he told me as long as they aren't blood red or blue he'll be okay.

i think this vet is a total f*!@^ what the hell do i do now!? are their animal hospitals u can just take ur animal into without talking to that flucking same vet again!?!?!?!?

I love classic rock and roll. My favorite singers are Elvis, John Lennon, and Roy Orbison. Or i wouldn't mind naming him after a legendary actor.....But, i don't want to just name my puppy after one of those but i do want him to have a unique name. But one that doesn't sound like a dogs name---for example: buddy, lucky, and things like that.....what should i name him....i want it to relfect my type of retro liking in style and i want it to be different. My puppy is mostly black with a white stomach and paws with black spots......help?

My dog went into a pool at a house we were sitting, and it was rather dirty. The next day he had a congested nose he could barely breath out of, droppy eyes and seemed lathargic. That, and he didn't want to swim or exercise very much. Is it worth a trip to the vet? Are there some kind of procedures we can do at home to help him?

We just got a dog that was found. She's half chihuahua, half terrier. It's 5 months old, and not potty trained.

The question i hope someone can answer for me is, how often should we take the dog outside to go to the bathroom? We live in a 2nd story apartment and it gets bothersome going up and down all day. It's 4PM, and we've taken her out at least 9 times already. Out of all those times, she only gone once. She went another time, but that was inside!

Also, any other potty training tips will be greatly appreciated!

It feels like a muscle or a lump of fat. It does not seem to bother him if I touch it or squeeze it. I will be going to the vet in three weeks anyway for a few shots, but I don't want to wait that long if it is something serious. Has anyone had a pet with something similar?

So for the past 2 days, everytime she goes out to go to the bathroom (#2), she'll squat for about 5-10 minutes, and barely anything will come out. She will come back inside and we will have to clean her bottom off because she doesnt finish pushing it out. She is a 1yr-old Malti-poo. Its like she forgot how to poop or finish pooping. She is eating less too! She has very little energy and doesnt want to play. What could be wrong with her?

(and she's not very hairy, so it's not sticking to her because of that... but she is continually "leaking" her bowels and not going to the bathroom correctly anymore. Anyone know why?????????

Thanks

A few days ago be began acting very lethargic. He has been having balance problems and tends to list to the left when he walks. He also flinches away from contact around his head/face and has been having minor seizures. He's eating fine, but throws up any water he drinks within a few minutes of drinking it. He's also having some problems with incontinence (sp?).
We took him to the vet on Thursday and she said it's probably meningitis, epilepsy, or a brain tumor, so we are taking him to a neurology clinic tomorrow to get a spinal tap.
I was just wondering if anyone else has seen these symptoms in their dog and what it ended up being.
