We just had our 1 year old male German Shepard neutered about 5 days ago, now his testicles are about twice as big as normal. Will this swelling go down and when? Can we give him anything for the pain?

LOL... ok... Sack is better.. I was gonna say he shouldn't have testicles anymore!
Anyways... The swelling will go down in a few days. if it doesn't or WORSENS take him back to the vet.
If he doesn't act like he is in pain then he shouldn't need any pain medication!!! But if he is... call your vet and tell them. I'm sure they will be happy to give him a few days supply of pain pills.
Good Luck
***And depending on how big his testicles were.... He will most likely have a sack that droops. This isn't swelling this is just the empty sack after the testicles were taken out. Some draw up but most will not completely "shrink" all the way!!!
****GSD Handeler AND TO THE ASKER OF THIS QUESTION!... They DO!!! leave the sack!!! Some vets remove the entire sack and testicles. Some remove the testicles from the sack. YOUR VET DID NOTHING WRONG!!!!
MY VET!!! removes the testicles from the sack and the dog are always left with a sack hanging!!!
Here is a website WITH PICTURES!!! the show a vet removing the testicles from the sack!

***YOU ARE SOOO WELCOME!!! lol

It's just the swelling of the skin around the incision. You can try a cold pack on the area, but it should go down in a few days, although some dogs will get a build up of 'serum" which may have to be drained.Just watch it,and if it's not gone down in a day or two,or swells more, then call your vet. And,congratulations on not contributing to the surplus of dogs! And,yes he does still have the sac!

Sounds like you need to get your dog back to the Vet ASAP! Could be bleeding into the sacks that held his testicles. This could be simple or a very serious problem that need immediate attention.

A lot of swelling isn't entirely normal. It happens, but not very often. It's possible that the dog has a "bleed" and the sac is filling with blood. We suggest taking the dog back to your vet to make sure everything is okay and healing properly.

Give the shepherd extra exercise. A run off leash at a dog park would be good. If you don't have a dog friendly park nearby, see if you can find another dog with a similar play style in your area to arrange play dates. With some training you can teach the shepherd to play appropriately with the yorkie but it will still need an outlet for extra energy.

It isnt possible that your dog was neutered or he wouldnt have his manhood he was never operated on or the did a bad job, either way u need to take him to a new vet and have him checked over really well or u could end up with a sick or dead dog... dont wait do this now...

You really need to talk to the vet that did it. He may have an infection and need medication. They usually give you pain pills for your pet when you have them fixed. Poor thing!!!!!

Yes, the swelling goes down, if it doesnt then he more than likely wasnt altered correctly. And just for future reference, its German Shepherd.
