It feels like a muscle or a lump of fat. It does not seem to bother him if I touch it or squeeze it. I will be going to the vet in three weeks anyway for a few shots, but I don't want to wait that long if it is something serious. Has anyone had a pet with something similar?

My suggestion is for you to call your vet. if they think it needs 2 be seen about then you should schedule an appointment before then. Most likely it won't be anything but it is best that it is seen about.. Well I hope that your dog has a good report when it comes home form the vet=D

This could be several things. Could just be a fatty mass. No big deal. Could be fluid. Could also be an embedded foxtail. These need to come out as they can migrate through the dogs body and cause serious problems. Or it could be something serious. Your vet may want to do a biopsy, which is take a sample of the lump and send it off to the lab and see what it is. This can be done with either a needle, or they cut out a piece of the lump.

The vet is the only one that can give you a correct diagnosis
It could be a pulled muscle just like people, could be a fat tumor or could be cancer or an abcess or a number of other things. I wouldn't wait for 3 weeks and if you take her in early they should be able to give her shots just a little early without side affects.
I don't think it's an emergency but something that should be seen pretty soon.

Perfectly normal. Most dogs come into their first heat at around 6-9 months old. As for whether or not you can spay, you'd have to discuss it with your vet. If they feel it would be safe to keep the appointment, then go ahead. If you're uncomfortable with it, or your vet wont do it, and you're 115% sure you can keep her from mating, then go ahead and wait a few weeks and set the appointment up for after she's out of heat.

My dog (Pekingese) had a lump on her back and it seemed like a pimple, turned out to be a cyst which cost me over a thousand dollars. The vet seemed to think it could have been from ants or maybe a spider. She ok now.

Take it to the vet. It could be cancer. My dog had a lump and it turned out to be cancer and it had to be removed. GO TO THE VET.
