my pit used to chew on cell phone chargers all the time, whenever he could get his paws on them, I think it's just a puppy thing. he's outgrown it though and never chews up anything but his toys. it might be the same way with your just try to keep whatever you can out of reach, even though that might be hard and if he chews anything up put it in his nose, say no, and give him a little tap on the but, but not too hard.

Most dogs of his age still have chewing tendencies. I have a pit mix and he didn't stop chewing on things until after the age of one. But he still chews on some things. I suggest getting him a rawhide chew toy or a bone. One big enough to keep him busy for a couple of days. You can find chew bones that are soaked in beef flavorings and chicken. They love these. When you find your dog chewing on something he shouldn't, take it away from him and substitute it for one of his chew toys, rawhides or bones. Anything that is acceptable for him to chew. Tell him this is his chew toy, and tell him he's a good dog for playing with it.

If all else fails get some sour apple spray and spray it on the items you don't want him to chew and then place his mouth on the sprayed area. The taste should deter him from chewing on it again. You can find the sour apple spray at most pet stores.

I hope this helps.

This is normal behavior for his age. Try "Bitter Apple" spray on things you do not want him to chew on. Additionally, make sure you are giving your puppy plenty of appropriate things to chew on such as rawhide, chew ropes, stuffed kongs, etc. Also establish that you are the pack leader and "growl" at him and say "stop" if you catch him chewing on something inappropriate. If your dog is non-responsive also add a hand clap to the growl to get his attention (never use physical force w/ your dog).

You need to provide lots of toys, but a different one every day. When you find him chewing something do not harm in or yell at him because it will only scare him, just say Bad dog! in a very stern tone and replace your personal belongings with the toy. Good luck.

Chew toys! Buy him a tasty bone or 5, and he will find that it's more tasty than an arm chair. Plus he won't get in trouble for chewing it! Note: Start out with soft toys or bones so he doesn't break his thin puppy teeth.

Its perfectly normal for a 8 month old dog to chew on things. My puppy used to chew everything too! So, we decided to give her GIANT rawhide bones. If your puppy doesn't seem to like the rawhide, try giving it a couple of frozen fish stick. Good luck!

I can only tell you boys experience. He's a bird dog and when he was a puppy I gave him toys - lots and lots of stuffed animals and even a fresh coconut [husked down to the white stringy part] for him to chew up. That worked great until he got older. He didn't know which stuffed toys were his and which ones were someone elses - like my neice's when-she-was-an-infant-in-the crib bear-bear. He ripped it to shreds. Oops!

Give him LOTS of toys that he can chew on (preferably indestructable toys) like kongs with a little bit of peanut butter inside of them to attract him to chew on the right things!

we had a little pug that was a notorious chewer a while back..

the way we got him to stop was.. he HATED spicy food.. so we sprinkled a little pepper on the parts of the furniture that he was always chewing.

im not sure if this kind of thing would work for anyone else.. but i thought i would throw it out there for ya :)

by the way... the pepper thing.. worked like a charm. he doesnt chew anymore!
