My dog went into a pool at a house we were sitting, and it was rather dirty. The next day he had a congested nose he could barely breath out of, droppy eyes and seemed lathargic. That, and he didn't want to swim or exercise very much. Is it worth a trip to the vet? Are there some kind of procedures we can do at home to help him?

Take him to the vet and let them diagnose and recommend treatment.

He could have caught some kind of cold or other respiratory illness that may require medication.

Some breeds are just susceptible to nasal congestion.

Just like people, animals can have allergies too. Something may have triggerd an allergy in him that has got him all stuffed up.

In any event, a vet will need to diagnose and treat this so your puppy will feel better. The sooner, the better. An animal that cannot breathe well may not eat well. The act of eating and swallowing makes breating more difficult if the nose is congested.

NEVER use people medication on an animal without directions from the vet to do so. You can kill your dog that way.

i would say so, yes take him to the vet but in the mean time, make sure he is eating and drinking. you can use plain saline solution to wash any crud outta his eyes and there are these nose drops called "little noses" that are very safe that you can use for the congestion. you can find them in almost any drug store.
