The chip is usually placed in the back of the neck, it is about as big as a grain of rice so it is very unlikely that you would be able to feel it.
I don't understand your GPS concern, this is not a tracking device, simply a chip that when activated by a chip reading device, will give a number which is then checked on file with your address and phone number details so that you can be contacted if your dog were lost.

OH come on.. Look up microchip.. It's got nothing to do with GPS.. If it had GPS in it, it would cost a whole lot more than it does to get them chipped..
The chip is between his shoulder blades at the back of his neck. If it was inserted correctly.
minnie: this is absolutely not true. All our puppies are microchipped at 8 weeks of age.. Even dogs that are 7 and 8 years of age can be scanned without problem..
There certainly is a whole lot of misinformation out there about the microchip..

are you talking about a microchip? it does not work like a gps system. you cannot track your dog from a satellite transmitter. it is a chip, not electronic that is placed underneath the skin between the shoulder blades. it usually stays in that same area, but can migrate from side to side depending on the dog's age as it grows. what happens if your dog is lost and ends up at a vet clinic or shelter they take a scanner and it will read the number that's in the chip electronically. from that number they will contact the company that made your chip and as long as you are registered with them and have currant information with them they will contact you and tell you where your pet is. micro chips have allowed many lost dogs to find their way home, it's a great thing to do for your pet because you never know.

It's not a GPS chip. It's a capsule about the size of a piece of rice that is encoded with your info. I just found something out last week though regarding these chips - if you chip you dog when they are really young [like we are told we are supposed do do] over the years, skin and tissue apparently grows over and fills in where the sensor is on the chip. Apparently, making it hard or unable to read... The best thing going is the tried and true dog tag. 2 tags. 1 ID tag on with all the rest and 1 ID tag on a dedicated ring on the other side of the collar. This I know from experience. My boy got out. When I got him back, all his tags were ripped off except the 1 ID tag I had on him seperate from the others on it's own ring.

The chip is usually right between the shoulders. It only gives a signal to a portable scanner and it gives them just a number. It is about the size of a grain of rice and you'd have a heck of a time finding it without the scanner. Its a good thing, If you register the chip you will get your dog back easier if lost.

It's between the shoulder blades. And it is not GPS, it has the information of the vet that put it in on it so Animal Control can contact you to get your dog back to you should it become lost.

It is just under the skin. about the size of a grain of rice. It is just a form of identification. If your dog was lost the vet or shelter would use a special scanner that shows a number that would be linked to your info
