Hi Mandy 18: You are the kind of person this question was asked for! Thanks for your honesty. I hope that anybody reading this string learned something new here.
Thumbs up!

I won't lie here ... I could not define all these terms without looking them up, but this is an "open book test" for anybody interested to learn the parts of their dog (-;

Interesting tidbit about the term Prow ... years ago when I brought home one of my pups, the stud dog owner kept telling us how impressed she was with this dog's prow. My wife and I politely smiled and agreed that Crystal (our pup) had a nice prow. Later, as soon as we got in the car to leave, my wife and I stared at each other and simultaneously asked, "Do you know what a prow is?" When we got home, we looked it up. I believe that either of us would immediately know now, without hesitation, that the prow is the forechest!

OK I'm not going to cheat. I'm doing this from memory ok. :)
Stop: the end of the top muzzle just where the forhead starts.
Brow: the part of the dog from the end of the stop to the top of the head
Occiput: top back of the head
Whithers: top of the shoulder blades top back.
Croup: Top rear back almost to the tail
Stern:
Hock:first joint up from the wrist on the back leg
Pastern: area between the paw and the first joint on both front and rear legs.
Stifle: Area of the back legs that are the most muscular just above the hock.
Elbow: Front legs, last joint
Dew claws: well this can be on both front and rear legs inside the lower legs just above the paw on the pastern.
Tuck up: It's right under the dogs back legs at the top near their under belly.
Loin: Top back portion of the dog near the rear. In between the Top line and the Croup.
Prow:
Muzzle: On the dogs face where the nose is located. From the nose to the stop is the muzzle.
Ruff:
Topline: The portion of the top of the back from the whiters to the Loin.
Feathering: Well this can be on many parts of a Golden. Back of the front and back legs, chest, ears, butt, tail. Almost forgot underbelly.
Thigh: right behind the back leg just under the stifle
Second Thigh: just above the thigh on the back legs.

OK you stumped me on a few now I have to go and look it up. Then slap my self on the forhead. LOL
My description may not be text book but I think I'm pretty close.

Hey Shepherd girl want to compair notes???LOL

Ok the Prow is the forechest, the tail are you sure????LOL
I thought the tail was the stern! Oh crap!

I can't find the ruff either unless it the sound the dog makes and it was a trick question. LOL

Ok I found Ruff! It's the thick long hair that grows around the dogs neck. I should have known this! Slapping my self on the forehead.
I'm sticking with my verson of the Prow as the forechest
The Stern is the tail.

Ok I now know what a Prow is but I'm not going to say. I'm sticking with what I already put down. It's close but it's not completely corrrect. This is a function. Again I should have known this too.

Your very clever sir!

Taking back the call for Uncle! LOL

How'd we'd Do?????

LOL I have to admit I called in for help with the Prow. However it did also give a description as to how to look for a correct prow on a dog. I have to ask Is this term still used today as a discription for how the dog function while swimming, for someone to say, This dog has a good prow??

How'd I do on the other stuff?? It was from memory. I didn't look anything up. My mentor drummed this into my head. She would give me pop quiz's on this stuff. If I did really badly I got to clean out her kennels! LOL
Or is it defined in another way?
LOL Copy from me anytime Shepherd girl! LOL

Stop - The depression in the face of a dog between the skull and the nasal bones. Looked it up because I couldn't remember
Brow - forehead
Occiput - back of the head, copied Goldengal
Withers - shoulders
Croup - rump
Stern - tail
Hock - skinny part of the back leg, a lot of GSDs walk on that part, the American lines
Post Sternum - breastbone
Pastern (front and rear) - it is equivalent to the wrist and ankle
Stifle - knee joint
Elbow- self explanatory
Dew Claw-fifth toe
Tuck up - lower waist
Loin - waist
Prow -The tail of an animal; -- now used only of the tail of a dog. I looked it up because I did not know
Muzzle - jaw and nose
Ruff- I can not find this. Is it a sound a dog makes when it barks, LOL, just kidding!!
Topline - back
Feathering - hair under the tail
Thigh - self expanatory
Second Thigh -

Ok that is all I know without looking it up and a couple I am not sure I am right about. The ones I left blank, I have no idea. I didn't look it up yet but now I am going to. At least I tried.

No, Goldengal I will just copy your answers, you're usually correct with your info and I know mine are not textbook. LOL.

ETA: ok I looked up the ones I did not know and added them but I could not find ruff, so what is it?

That is what it said prow was in the freeweb dictionary. I have no idea and I never heard of it.

Ok I went back to where I found prow, I guess I should have opened it up instead of just reading the preview and then I would have gotten the correct defintion. See Goldengal, it would have been better if I copied you. LOL I did think it was odd that the tail could be known as both stern and prow.
