My dog was in heat the week of April 12. We kept her and our male apart, but once they were together. We didn't think she was pregnant, but a few weeks ago she started lactating and having clear milky vaginal discharge. She hasn't had any puppies, but sometimes it feels as if there might be a puppy inside her. I know if she was pregnant she would have delivered a few days after she began lactating. I think it might be a pseudo or phantom pregnancy, but lately her nipples have began to lactate a milky red color until tonight her nipples are lactating blood. It isn't milky anymore it is really red blood. Can dogs lactate blood with a phantom pregnancy or is there another more serious problem? I can't find anything online and I'm very concerned. Please help with any information possible. Thank you.

My black lab of 8 years died suddenly in the middle of the night. At about midnight she was breathing heavily, shaking, and looked as if she had seen a ghost. By 5 in the morning she was dead. I was wondering how long to wait to get a new dog. Is there precautions for the new puppy I should take, or was it just something wrong with the previous dog? She was fine the whole day. We do not have any rat poisons either, and our yard is secure. I want to get a puppy as soon as possible. Can I? I'm over the grieving part. If it is unsure. When is the soonest possible time to get one?

I got a Yorkie for my birthday from my husband last year and then found out I'm pregnant. Of course, our intention was to make her an inside dog but... she is not fairing well in the house and is just so hyper. We have sent her to a three week intense (and expensive!) dog training school as well as working with her ourselves. We still have issues with biting, barking, chewing, and most of all, housebreaking her. We have honestly really tried. She's ten months old now and I'm due in 2 months. I'm very weary of having a newborn around her and fear the worst. We love her dearly and don't want to get rid of her. As a last resort, we are considering making her an outside dog. We have a large fenced yard that she enjoys when she is allowed to run around freely. Is this is ok? She doesn't seem to mind being outside and loves the walks we take her on. She loves to run the backyard right now when we let her. We have a covered back porch for shelter. Does this sound ok?

Hi well I am doing research on raceing greyhounds because if they dont run fast enough they are either beaten, hung from a tree, shot, left at a labratory which cut off their heads, At the end of each race there is a vet waiting to kill them and thrown on a kill truck. And are thrown in empty feilds and they all live in a box sometime4s only let out to race. The poor dogs are constantly muzzeld also are starved to death or fed 4-d meat which is scraps from rendering plants which willm kill the dogs eventualy if you would like to see the pics of what happends to these dogs go to www.greyhounds.org then click on what racing tracks dont want you to know then scrool down to what says the proof is in the pichures please checki this out and please help by donateing and spreading the word

i'm a new male maltese puppy owner. It has been diarrhea for 2 days since it came home with me 3 days ago. and it rarely barks unlike other maltese puppies. it only has a small soft baby's barking when it first saw u in the morning. it's not very active either. after a while walking around the house, it'd sleeps through the afternoon. at night, we put it in its cage,it's no rejective either,it'd just quietly resting on it's mat in the cage.
is it normal? or is it retard? i am worried!

our dog was pretty calm not running around and was sitting in the room while we watched t.v. She jumped up started to run but kept falling to one side it think maybe her left side. My dad took her in the other room and sat her back down and she was fine but breathing hard. What could it have been?

I was at the park today and my dog tried to bite a nice young lady that tried to pet him! This was really embarassing and I was so pissed at my dog for doing that, next time I take him to the park, should I just get a muzzle and this will solve everything. Could he get used to being comfortable with the muzzle and being accustomed to people petting him??? I think the muzzle is the best solution, what do you dog lovers think??

We are looking for a dog that...
1) Isn't yippy and barky...but will bark when someone comes to the door or there's a problem.
2) Gets on well with kids and other critters - cats and other dogs.
3) Handles visitors well.
4) Won't completely destroy the house chewing and digging.
5) Likes going for walks. Likes being inside and outside.
6) Isn't needy and hyper. Isn't food crazy.
7) Likes the family but doesn't just follow you around all day.
8) Doesn't have a bazillion health issues.

We're good with:
1) Whatever size of dog is fine.
2) Whatever grooming needs - cool.
3) Inside/outside dog - fine.

Anyone have ideas for a laid back, mellow breed of dog that would fit the bill? Any idea where to find such a dog? We've had shelter dogs, but are looking into finding a breeder. How do we find a good one?

I travel with my dog a lot, and we had a soft-sided crate, but he chewed a hole in it and got out, so I am afraid to get another one in case he does it again, and get into something dangerous inh a strange place if we weren't with him. But when I travel, the car is full, and most plastic crates stick out where you latch both halves together, and that kind does not fit in my car well, because they do not fit through the side door. His old crate was 24L x17W x22H. Should I use a wire crate (or would that freak him out if he was someplace new and felt exposed?), another soft-sided crate (and risk escaping?) or try to find a plastic crate that doesn't stick out at the edges (and I have been looking for one online for two days with no success?). HELP!

He had 2 large masses taken off (NOT cancer) 1 on face 1on leg. Took him back to vet next day for a antibiodic shot, pain and one for vomiting. I have tried wetting his dry food, canned food, baby food, cream cheese, Gadder aid, rice, and just gave him a small amount of tuna in water (so far it is staying down.. He is drinking water and still peeing ok. has pooped a few times. He is laying in the kitchen (can't let him on the carpet) with the air cond. the heat outside bothers him fast so it is in and out fast. I have never had a dog this old have surgery and feel like a new mom with a new born baby. I just went in the kitchen and he wagged his tail when I spoke to him. Maybe the tuna is going to stay down. Hoping for a few more good years with a wonderful dog.

if you ever check into these so called purebreds were at one time nothing but designer dogs.
All domestic canines are nothing but mixes but people pay for them.

i have 2 rescued dogs. 1 silky & 1 maltese. they sleep together play together & do like eachother's company as far as i can tell. now my silky is a bit hyper active although she gets an hour every day where she can run around like crazy off the leash and goes for another 30 minute walk before she goes to sleep but sometimes she acts very strange.
now i will try to describe this as good as i can when we go for out early morning walks, she is on a seperate leash to my maltese, she gets really excited and runs ahead, runs back, runs into my maltese and jumps on him and growls. but never with teeth so it makes me thing it's not an aggressive growl. does she just want to play? or is it more of an issue i should be careful of? if so what can i do to stop it? i try to hold her on a shorter leash until she calms down but that seldom happens.
thanks for advise

I am pretty sure my dog has an ear infection now. Her ears smell and She shakes her head and she cys when we touch around there. What would the vet do to help her? Would there be ear drops or something? How much do you think it would cost. The fee to bring her in is 25$. Thanks for answering.

i want to switch my doog to canidae all life stages dog food. he is currently on nutro natural choice large breed dog food chicken which is f uckin crap. it's full of corn and soy yuck and rice too. i looked into innova and solid gold also and canidae looks best. my question is will it be good for a large breed dog? i noticed it does not have the glucossamine and chondroitin nutro or innove does. also how could the same food be good for a 5 week old chihuaha and a 10 year old mastiff it just doesnt make sense im a little skeptical about that. oh and how much will a 40 pound bag cost. btw its my dogs birthday today wish him a happy bday hahah
