Only one sperm can impregnate an egg at a time, so although there can be more than one father for an entire litter, , there is only one father for each individual puppy that is born.

In other words, a litter can have more than one father, but each pup can only have one father.

there is no way for pups to get teh characteristics of more than one male however they often get the characteristics of the grand parents and great grandparents so you should know the background at least back 3 generations. This is the reason when they are registered you can get eth generation ( pedigree) papers.
For example my sister just had poodle pups born teh mother is pure white and the father is white and black parti. Teh puups are different shades of brown and one is white and brown. on teh moms side is browns, black a white partis and brown and white patis. teh fathers side is black, balck and whit parti and chocolate.

Some pups may be from one male and some from another male, but they would not both be fathers to one particular pup.

Studies have proven that it does happen with dogs as well as cats. They have to mate pretty close in time to the first coupling.
