My dog was in heat the week of April 12. We kept her and our male apart, but once they were together. We didn't think she was pregnant, but a few weeks ago she started lactating and having clear milky vaginal discharge. She hasn't had any puppies, but sometimes it feels as if there might be a puppy inside her. I know if she was pregnant she would have delivered a few days after she began lactating. I think it might be a pseudo or phantom pregnancy, but lately her nipples have began to lactate a milky red color until tonight her nipples are lactating blood. It isn't milky anymore it is really red blood. Can dogs lactate blood with a phantom pregnancy or is there another more serious problem? I can't find anything online and I'm very concerned. Please help with any information possible. Thank you.

This happened to my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel a couple months ago. She wasn't pregnant and began lactating milk. After a week of lactating, her milk turned into a brownish red fluid. I took her to the Vet. She was diagnosed with a breast infection and was put on antibiotics. Within a couple of days she was back to normal and she stopped lactating.

Sounds Like she has had a miscarriage and has an infection Does the discharge smell ? Does she have a temperature?
If it were My girl I would Take her to the vet asap.
If it is an infection it could become very serous very quickly you could loose her.
If you dont plan on breeding with her I would have her de- sexed ASAP.

has your dog been recently abducted by aliens? Maybe, you do the math man.
Seriously though, my dad was a vet and a symptom of milk fever is blood in the milk though I've never heard of this with dogs. If you are still interested and no body has an answer, shoot me an e-mail to remind me to ask my dad and I will be happy to get back. He definitely would know the score.

sounds like your dog may have mastitis get her to teh vets first thing in the morning.
My ssiters dog this this and she was put on an antibiotic andit cleared up.
It's an infection in teh milk glands as any infection if untreated can cause other medical problems and possibly death.
If you are considreing spaying this woudl be a good time to talk to your vet.

Definitly take her to the vet asap. This is not good! Your description is a bit all over the place but she might have a false pregnancy or complications, or a severe infection ... Take her in, this is serious.
Good Luck!

Go to the vet. That is not very good signs. I have a feeling that it may have been phantom, real, or a miscarriage. A vessel may have burst, but I'm not sure. Don't wait.

This sounds like a medical emergency.
Get her to a vet, asap. And consider having her spayed.
