My dog gracie was fixxed 06/08/07. on the 10th she started bleeding from her stitchs so i had to take her to the ER Vet place. They said she had an infection which is normal in dogs with big mamorie glans(I.E. breast). so they gave me some meds and told me to keep giving her baby asprin for the pain. I just noticed yesterday that she was bleeding a little from her private area. Its not bleeding a lot its just a little. It looks like a bloodie mucus. She goes back to the vet friday to get the stitchs out. My mom siad it may be the infection from the surgury trying to find a way out.

I took my year and a half old Dachshund Chihuahua mix dog to have her rabies shot yesterday and today she is in so much pain she can't walk. She is normally very active and loves to cuddle with me, today if I even touch her she cries like I have hit her or something. I called the vet and they said she seems to be over reacting to the pain of the shot?
Is this normal? Do rabies shots really cause side effects like this? If so how long shoudl I expect it to last?

My friend just bought a Miniature Yorkie from this "bad" pet store about a month ago and is now in an emergency vet clinic with an uncurable disease....and lots of other dogs seem to have the same problem coming from there.

Supposedly, the owner gets all of these puppies from a mill where they are ALL sick and brings them in to sell.

My boyfriend bought me a Shih Tzu today from there and it very playful, however, are puppies supposed to breathe a little faster than an adult dog??? Also, the new puppy is constantly sticking its tongue out of its mouth while its mouth is closed and rarely puts it back in...sometimes it is very dry.

My friend just received news that her dog will most likely not make it and it too is leaving its tongue out.

I'm just really worried. This store has strict guidelines and once the paperwork is complete, there is NO refund regardless of disease. You may only trade current dog for new.

PLEASE TELL ME IF MY DOG'S TONGUE SITUATION IS NORMAL....

My sister's friend is currently taking care of an abandoned Jack Russell Terrier that she can't keep. We are planning on adopting him, but here's the problem: we have two cats. We have no idea how old he is, but do you think it is possible that we could keep him in the house and he will get along with our cats? We are planning on keeping him next weekend to see how it works, but I wanted to get opinions from people who have JRTs. I already love this dog, and I want to keep him. Could I train him to keep him away from the cats? We brought him in the house temporarily and he tried to chase one of the cats. Our cats are pretty mean, so if he tries messing with them they might smack him and he'll stop. What do you guys think? Any tips?

Should I get a male or female boston terrier? Which one is better with kids? Does the gender have anything to do with how long they live? Which one lives the longest if so?

my dog is scared of something since this morning and i don't know what. The big problem is that he has confined himself to downstairs and will not go upstairs so he hasnt gone outside all day. (HE'S GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM SOON). This morning we found a big mess on the floor also, number 1 and 2. He used to be afraid of going upstairs when we first got him but he's gotten over that and has been good for the last few years. He is afraid of thunder but i checked the forecast and there is no sign of a storm anywhere (even far away). No fireworks either. I can't figure it out but I know he's gonna have to go outside, but if he can't get himself to go upstairs to get outside...well we don't want to have to keep cleaning up after him.

I have a yellow lab young dog, 6 months old. Her eye's always looks red or bloodshot or something. Does this sound right? She's going to the vet anyway, but just thought I'd ask around first. Thanx!

The first time he bit someone, the kid almost had it coming. It was dark and the stupid kid grabbed my dog's back leg. That was maybe three years ago, when my dog was maybe a year old. Since then he's nipped a couple little kids (for no reason), went after my boyfriend and barks angrily at everyone but a handful of people. I'm afraid to let him anywhere near most people. I just don't get it.

My dog is half dalmation and half australian cattle dog. He's a very lively dog but I think that causes him to get bored easily. He started chewing on his legs and paws to the point where they started to bleed a little. I've been trying to get him to stop for a long time. A couple days ago I noticed that he was keeping his weight off of one of his chewed paws. I took him to the vet, figuring it was infected. They gave us some antiboitic pills and recomended that he should take antidepressants. Hearing that made me feel like the worst dog owner in the history of the world.

I have two dogs in an apartment with a balcony. I adopted one of my dogs 2 weeks ago and he is 2 years old. The dog I just got 2 weeks ago will only urinate and poop when we are going on a walk and he will not go on the balcony, while my other dog goes in both places. I even didn’t take him out on a walk for a long time, so he would on the balcony (his crate is right inside the house, but it is opened up to balcony, so he go out anytime he wants), but this didn’t work. I don’t know what to do. I want him to go on the balcony too, because sometimes late I night to fall asleep accidentally and then have to wake up in the middle of the night to walk the dog for fear of a bladder infection. The dog was neutered two weeks ago and lifts his leg to urinate, which my other dog does not do, does this have something to do with why he isn’t on the balcony? What should I do to train the dog go on the balcony? Is it possible? Thanks!

I purchased a Great Dane that is 6 weeks old from a breeder out of state. I know that 6 weeks old is too young to take a puppy from its mother, but that is how the situation worked out. The day after I got the puppy home I took him to the vet for a health screen & the vet said he looked healthy, but stressed. My puppy was eating a mix of Diamond & Nutro Lg. Breed solid food when I picked him up. He easily eats the Nutro solid food & I've been giving him bottle spring water to drink. I plan on starting puppy classes with him ASAP & continuing on to obedience training. Right now he sleeps hard & plays hard. I cage him at night while I sleep or when I'm away...he doesn't like it and the other night I woke him up to let him out and it was dark and he actually growled til he realized it was me. I have two kids who hes been playing with & the breeder had kids also. I am nervous about taking him at 6 weeks, but does he sound like he'll be okay when older? I dont want an aggressive dog!

I was wondering if a dog had to be under anesthesia in order to be micro chipped...is this a process that can be completed without the anesthesia?

I know of some vets that have preferred to do the micro chipping while the dog is under in order to be fixed. I am adopting a greyhound that will most likely already be fixed when I get her but I would prefer her to be micro chipped as well.

I was going to ask my adoption agency if they would be able to micro chip her as they are fixing her, but I have a feeling she might be fixed before they even get her....so it may not be possible.

All serious answers welcome! Thanks for your help in advance....

PS - I really do not want to be preached to on the basis of why or why not to micro chip. I have made up my mind, so go away if that is your intention.

Thanks again!!!
