Labs do come in red. It's called Fox Fire. Also Chocolate, black and yellow.

This is a complicated question. First I agree with the person who said there is the "fox red" variety of Labrador which is indeed a shade of red. In terms of the AKC it would still be considered a Yellow Labrador. As far as the sire and dam go and what they might produce as offspring looking at the pedigree is generally not enough. I currenlty own a Lab from a litter of 8 Black Labs whose parents were a chocolate and a yellow. Normally, reputable breeders do a vetGen on the dog which establishes through DNA testing exactly what colors the dog carries. This also helps the breeder avoid anomalies like a "Duddly" - a Yellow Labrador with no pigment on the nose (pink nose). Bottom line is there is a bunch of genetics that are invloved. check out www.vetGen.com for more info or just search on something like "Labrador color chart".

Also many labs (especially from some of the prominent show lines) have some wave in their coat that is similar to a Chessie. Per the AKC standard they are allowed to have some wave but too much wave is considered a fault.

yellow labs can come in different shades.
it doesn't mater what color the mom and dad are it's what they throw.
Two blacks with other colors in the background can throw any color the same with the chocolate. And quite often the color doesn't go back to the parents but the grandparents and the great grandparents.
You need to check out the pedigree to see what colors are in the background.
As for as you description I have seen some labs to be like that and others easily trained and not so stubborn most I've met are good guard dogs.
However yes they can have been mixed any dog can breed I know of a great dane ffemale that was bred to a chihuahua

I don;t know why not? Any sorts of dogs can be mixed with any other so chances are they will be mixed - I suppose its like humans when say a pacific islander marries a chinese person - same difference!
Hope this helps.
