I have just bought a puppy who is a Bichon Frise/Llasal Apso cross. I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this particular combination, and what they need in terms of excercise etc. Also, at the moment he sleeps in a crate by my bed, when should he have his own bed or shoiuld I let him on mine?

Is a rough collie a good family dog? Does it have any special needs?

If not, what other breeds would you suggest for a family?

My puppy is 11 weeks old. He is a maltese/shih tzu mix. I put a collar on him with the ID tag. Should I use a leash to attach on the collar or use a harness? He doesn't like it when i try to walk him with the leash. my friend suggested getting a harness.

I have a 15 year old dog (part lab/shep) that has been going down hill. She has arthritis and her hearing is gone. But she was eating well. Tonight she started but softly - chewed at her feet. She had more trouble than usual getting up. I notice now under her left side of belly area appears swollen. It wasn't yesterday. I am out in the boonies with no vet accept an animal hospital that's very expensive. I have given her a tylenol which seemed to help. But I think it is time. She has a large pen - partially covered - soft area to lay. She has been my friend for 15 years. Any ideas on the swelling? Could it be from the heartworm she has. Vet said she had it two years ago - but to dangerous to deworm at her age then. Thank you.

My neighbor has two dogs from the same mother, different litters. The male is two and the female is one and they tied. Is this considered inbred? Will the puppies be inbred? What's the best way to handle this?

In this age of personal expression through unique fashion statements, I'm thinking of taking my identity to the next level.

The thing is...

I have a Pekingese named Chester. He has a very distinct, vibrant smile when he's aroused, which people constantly compliment. Due to new innovations in dental implant technology, would it be morally correct to have the dog, in turn, recieve my teeth?

The issue is not whether I should have my dog's teeth, but would it be overly selfish of me to assume that my dog would be content sporting human teeth?

Please advise.
I don't want to seem self-centered, and I want to make this a positive experience for both Chester and me.

Thank you so much!!!

My dog, a toy, apricot poodle, has scratchy eyes. He is always rubbing his head on the carpet, etc. to scratch it. I was thinking maybe its allergies, but what else could it be? He has tears sometimes, and so far there is no sign of discharge from his eyes. He also scratches his body sometimes, too. What is this?

I am having an issue with my dog (german Shapard age 5) All of a sudden simple daily rutines have become a game... every night we bring him in from the kennel he comes into his room and eats and we go inside to our part of the house... Lately, all of a sudden, he won't come in he just runs around the yard and avoids you and when you finally get him in his room he fights to get in the house with you... he wont listen to commands he always obayed and it is getting frustrating, ecpecially when we have to literally pull him into his room or force him somehow... None of us know what to do and don't want this to stay a habit and don't want to hurt the dog in this process one day by accident.... PLEASE help! I will appreciate any help i could get at this point...

THANK U!

I know he is getting them from outside. But let me explain the tick cycle that I have discovered....First, about a month ago, he was laying in the hall way and all around him on all of the walls were these little itty-bitty ticks full of blood. Since that incident I bought him a tick collar and have given him several baths with flea and tick shampoo, and put tick drops on his back. The problem stopped for about a week. Then, I was petting him and felt a few bumps on his skin, so then I checked and they were the hard ticks!! Not full of blood. It's unusual to me because every tick I find is NOT full of blood as if they wont bite him for some reason, I dont know if its from the tick collar or the drops, or something? But I also found one in his ear and quickly removed it, afraid that it would go further in his ear causing some sort of infection. I just dont know what to do, nothing is working, and I cant afford a vet bill right now. Can someone please help me ? thanks

Our family is looking for a puppy (about 12 months & younger) of any of the listed breeds. We currently have 2 adult cats and we are also looking for an adult Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. We are planning to move into a house with a rather large amount of land for these animals BEFORE we get any of the animals.

We have researched on this many times, but no helpful information has come up

If anyone can answer how these dogs behave, your response will be greatly appreciated.

Any other information is welcomed too

OK - people spend big $ for a purebreed because the AKC standards reassure that the puppies will grow up to the same standards of their parents regarding bone structure, weight and size, especially in small dogs. So you buy a very small dog, pay big bucks, and the puppy grows up 5-7 lbs bigger than their parents. Of course you love the dog and wouldn't trade it for the world! But should the breeder be held accountable in some way since, after all, the registration mark is stamped on the papers and you paid a high price because of the so-called guarantee? Please, no "shame on you" comments. This is strictly hypothetical.
