I am having an issue with my dog (german Shapard age 5) All of a sudden simple daily rutines have become a game... every night we bring him in from the kennel he comes into his room and eats and we go inside to our part of the house... Lately, all of a sudden, he won't come in he just runs around the yard and avoids you and when you finally get him in his room he fights to get in the house with you... he wont listen to commands he always obayed and it is getting frustrating, ecpecially when we have to literally pull him into his room or force him somehow... None of us know what to do and don't want this to stay a habit and don't want to hurt the dog in this process one day by accident.... PLEASE help! I will appreciate any help i could get at this point...

THANK U!

Alright. The same thing happened to my dog. He is trying to be dominating. To start of with, when he wants to do anything (fetch, go outside, come inside, get on the bed, recieve his food, whatever he wants) he must work for it. So if he wants to play ball, have him sit first, then through the ball. Keep doing this. If he wants to come inside, make him sit first. If he wants to be loved, make him sit first. Make him do some command, it does not neccesarily have to be sit. This happened with my dog and that it what my trainer told me to do. I have been doing this for 2 weeks now and she has improved a LOT. She will now do whatever I want her to do, cause she knows otherwise she will not get what she wants. Your dog must work for his love, and playtime, and potty time (if he is potty-trained, other wise put him outside when you normally if he is an inside dog) . This will help you dog know who is boss and figure out that he is NOT the pack leader, you are.

I hope I helped and good luck!! :o)

Have there been any changes at home a new pet or new baby or maybe someone isnt living with you that used to certain things can upset an animal and they act out because of it. Maybe something happened to him that troubled him and it has thrown him off routine. He could also be bored if he doesnt get much attention except for at the end of the day maybe this is his way of acting out. I am not sure exactly what advice to give you in helping you but maybe give him extra attention but not when he is acting out because then he will think that hey I do get attention this way and continue to act up. The more attention he recieves from acting the way he is the more he will act that way and it will be harder to break the habit. As the dog whisperer says you have to be the leader of the pack your the boss not him(he does have books out and may help you with more insight to your dog. It never hurts to call the vet as well alot of times you can call them and they will talk to you over the phone for nothing they may have other ideas on what might be going on.

He doesn't need a vet. What he needs is exercise and discipline. Not punishment, Discipline. For those who don't know the difference. lol. Practice more with him simple commands such as sit, come, stay, etc. Every day. be consistent with his exercise. Make him work for things. For example, feed him after you give him a walk around town. Not a 15 minute walk. like an hour walk. But before you feed him make him do something like sit, or down before he gets his food. I personally bought my dog a back pack for dogs. Now he carries things. If your consistent with exercise and discipline I promise you that the problems will go away.

Is he neutered? If so, it sounds like he is bored and this is a game for him to relieve the boredom. How about some exercise between the kennel and the house. Like a GOOD hour romp in a nearby park? I bet you, that will make all the difference in the world. He does not need a vet.

Good luck !

Check and see that your dog is getting all the exercise that they say he is at the kennel. I've worked in a kennel and things tend to get shortened during the summer and around holidays when they are busy or its hot outside. Also summer helpers tend to see how little they can do!

ahhhhhh, I don't think I'd want to come in and "go to my room" when my people are in another part of the house. Don't you spend any time with him? Sounds like he goes from his kennel to his room. Wow, that's pretty boring if you ask me. My advise, try and find him a new home where the people will spend some time with him and love him. I have two GSD and they are with me all day. Shepherds are very people oriented dogs and deserve to spend time with their people.

He may need more exercise or he may just be feeling lonely. If you have the Animal Planet channel look for ( The dog Whisperer ) He handles all kinds of problems dog owners have. You will learn a lot if your interested in making your dog a great family pet.

It sounds like he is locked up a lot. Shepherds are very intelligent dogs and need to work. Take him to obedience classes, on long walks, a place to run and play every day. Spend time with him in the house. They are family dogs and should be with their families. His behavior is because he does not want to go where you are putting him because he is not happy.
