I have a female Maltese that I think is pregnant. Her vulva is still slightly swollen, her breasts under her nipples are slightly swollen, she sleeps all the time, and constantly wants to be right next to me. I brought her to the vet on wednesday (she would have been 36 days/5 weeks along). The vet palpated her and said that he didn't think she was pregnant. However, I read that after 30 days you can no longer feel the pups by palpating, is this true and could it be that the pups are too small and he could have missed them? Also, he did it while she was standing in a normal position, is this right or should the dog be laying down? He also said that she had only gained 3 ounces and if she was pregnant she would have gained more, I read that they don't gain weight until after 5 weeks so what is he talking about? I'm worried that he might not know what he's doing. Should I trust him or find another vet? Which thing is he right/wrong about?

My three year old labrador retreiver has recently been sucking in air through her nose (hard to describe). It is almost like she is about to throw up, but she only does it once or twice at a time, relatively infrequently. I have pushed on her trachea and she has not coughed. I actually have not observed her coughing at all.

Any help from veterinarians or vet techs is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Pray tell, how does a Chihuahua run at large? (He was only out for about two hours when I found him and brought him home.) What kind of damage could a Chihuahua POSSIBLY do? I cannot imagine him tipping a garbage can when he weighs only 3 and a half pounds.

Well were do I start????
@ 9pm I decided to go 4 a walk with my pup (6mth old)
I get about 20 min into the walk to meet a family dispute.
A guy trying to attack a woman with a knife! She was screaming @ me to call the police but thinking I was just going on a small walk didn't take my mobile.
I was banging on the unknown guys door to call the police, after I had tried to speak to them with them dithering on asking a load of bloody stupid Q's: Then all I heard was hide your dog????? confused so was I.

All of a sudden these two massive Dobes came running towards me & my dog the started to attack my dog & I was fighting with them trying to get them off, I had to let go of my own lead stand on it so he couldn't run off then I had my hands free to grab these Dobes so they couldn't rip mine in 2.
Apparently the dogs had been trained to do this! What kinda mental case trains there dogs to do that????
I know the woman, she asked me to hurry get home & pick her up checked dog went back out, th

I said breeds because (as many of you already know) "pit bull" isnt really a breed.. It is a term that some people use to describe 3 breeds.. American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. I asked, what is your opinion on "pit bulls" because I want to see what people really know about these breeds and how they feel about them. It is amazing to me how many people dont know anything true about these breeds... most people will start telling me all of these "pit bull" myths as if they were facts and it really bothers me. I dont even see how anyone can really believe any of the crazy "pit bull" myths that are out there! I have spent alot of my life around these wonderful breeds and it really is such a shame that more people dont understand them. It breaks my heart to have to stand up for my family and my dogs all of the time. I asked this question hoping to be able to help educate people on these breeds, so that more people will know the truth!

I know that sounded like a weird question, but hear me out. I answered another question and got several thumbs down signs. Someone had asked why their dog might be foaming at the mouth and I stated that the dog may have gotten ahold of a toad. Someone please clarify this for me, I've seen it happen, but apparently they don't beleive me.

I have dog, with a pea sized lump, that i just noticed to day, so it came on very suddenly. Its on his shoulder, its soft in the middle, and around the edges its kinda hard, it dont bother him, unless i pushed on it.. ( i did that to see, not to be mean, :( ) He is very muscular, and its on his muscle (if that makes a difference to know or not i have no clue). Please if anyone knows what this is, let me know.... I do know that sometimes certian conditions with dogs, are associated with thier breed. My boy is a pitbull.
please no degrading comments on his breed, i only put it there incase it could be something associated with the breed. I am proud to be a pit mama :)

We had my dog for about 1 month now. We got him from a resque center. But when he was a puppy he was abused by a man. The people we got him from said that it only takes about 2 weeks to get use to my dad. It's been a whole month, and he's not use to my dad! Does this sound right? He's he just scared because he moved from 3 different houses? Is this normal? Please HELP!

Dog is 8 months old and ever since the weather started getting nicer, we've been leaving him out for a half hour here and there, sometimes an hour or so. Anyway, our problem is that his dog keeps getting wrapped up in his leash. Leash is a wire on with the protective coating on it (supposedly a no tangle leash at that), plus we tried a chain and he wrapped himself up in that, too. Dog has plenty of toys outside, bones, water and isn't bored. He just has a fascination with getting wrapped up in his leash. The only thing I can think of to combat this is a large kennel. My husband doesn't like that idea, he thinks some kind of chain or leash should be sufficient. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

My puppy has to get shots and I am not well educated on the canine vaccines. I know plenty about child immunizations just not canine ones. What are the different ones called and what are they suposed to cover? I am not for immunizing children, but I do understand the importants of the rabies and distemper for dogs. Is that all I should have my puppy get? I know that 10 yrs ago that is all they got at least that is all our dogs got. Please help.

We just got a dog door. It took no time for my dog to understand how to use it and so on. Here's the problem: she won't use it until I give her the command to go or come in. Now I'm stuck, how do I make her understand that she can use it whenever she wants to w/o my permission? All she does is sit there and waits for my command. Thanks

Has to start with a P to match with my friend's chihuahua. :) My friend's chihuahua's Penelope.

I'm thinking: Pollyanna (you know, both Pollyanna and Penelope are old-fshioned names), Pumpkin, or Posy. I like Princess, but it's too common. :)
