We just got a dog door. It took no time for my dog to understand how to use it and so on. Here's the problem: she won't use it until I give her the command to go or come in. Now I'm stuck, how do I make her understand that she can use it whenever she wants to w/o my permission? All she does is sit there and waits for my command. Thanks

such a good girl... go outside and leave her inside... laugh and chat etc. like you are having fun,,, soon she will decide she is missing out on something and will go out to explore... ( don't call her anymore)

Just wait, don't use any of the commands. Put a small treat outside about 2 feet away from the dog door. Or have another dog at your house like a friends dog or something and ur dog will watch it's behavoirs.

What you need to do is go on the other side of the door with a dog treat. Hold the door open and call her to come through it for the treat. Continue this a few times. Tomorrow you do the same but don't hold the door all the way open. Eventually call the dog for the treat and he will push open the door himself. Good luck.

Push her through the door or yell squirrel Get a favorite toy and throw it out the dog door, and make her come in the dog door. Get her used to doing this.

Whoa, first time I ever heard someone trained their dog too well. We just had to shove our dogs out the doggie door, my hubby had built a lil room with a ramp to the ground, they run in and out all the time. This may take some time, be kind and give positive reinforcement if he does it. Just like raising a kid.

Put a treat inside and he'll come by himself hopefully, then praise him and he'll come by himself hopefully.
