He drinks a lot of water though. I believe the water is making his body swell. Is there any truth in that? Is it good for dogs to drink alot of water?

Why?

The dog has never done this before. Never. She didn't even ask to go outside.

She finished her dinner, and while I was cleaning up the kitchen, she wandered into the family room, looked over at me sqaure in the in the eye, squatted, and peed.

In her whole life...NEVER has she done this. What gives?

Any ideas?

Obviously finding a mongrel with the right temprament is hard so I leave it up to you to choose a breed:

I need something medium/ large size, preferably shorter furred as we live in a wet, muddy area of the country. It needs to be quiet but able to bark the house down when needs be. A good walker but mustn't pull the walker along with it.

I also need something that will be a good family dog in a smaller house but will also be willing to do 'guard' duty when I am away (my mother is infirm and a sentinel with a nice set of gnashers would help put her at ease).

Anything fit the bill? I'm looknig for something a little less docile that a Dobermann but more aggressive than a Shitzu!

Thanks!

PS, I realise that a lot of these traits are down to individual dogs but a generalisation would be nice! Also would gender matter in these circumstances?

I have a 4month old female pomeranian I want to train her to potty/poop in 1 area only like underneath a newspaper, toilet bowl or poop tray. I have read a lot re this topic but none of them seem to be comprehensive, effective or make sense. Can someone give me the SIMPLEST yet EFFECTIVE STEPS to potty train a pup. Can my pup still learn potty training considering she is already 4months old??

I'm getting a black and silver miniature schnauzer puppy and I was just wondering what people recommend as the best shampoos for a pup and later on for a dog. I don't intend to show him but I want him to look his best, in colour and coat condition. Also important to me is that the shampoo be as natural as possible and biodegradable etc.

Just today I adopted a German Shepherd Dog, 6 months old, female. She was in a good foster home for a few months. I am a dog trainer, and this is my third dog. I am being slow about introducing them. I was seeking a dog with solid nerves, good drive, and energetic. I left my apt. for about 2 hours, and I left the dog in the livingroom. When I came back, she was barking, but did not come to the door. I came in the room and she was cowering behind a table, when I reached for her, she peed and cowered. She is suspicious and barks a lot. She also screamed like she was being killed when my other dog played rough with her and kind of pinned her. I am very upset. For those who are experienced, do you think this dog could develop more confidence and solid nerves? At 6 moths, is her personality set? Do I have a GSD with bad nerves who will always be spooked?

Why does everybody like chihuahuas? Like... it gets on my nerves. They're all so mean, and yippy, and they bite. And when they yip at someone, all the owners ever do is pick it up and hold it, and in a soft reassuring voice say "It's ok" that just teaches the chihuahua that it's ok to be mean. You don't be all nice to it when it acts bad, you ignore it.

I mean... I guess I'm just going on a rant here. So... I don't know exactly what I want you to say. Soo... here's 2 points, and if feel like answering... go ahead and just talk about what you think about what I'm saying.

What's the meanest dog you've ever encountered, and what did it do to you? Did it bite you? Or snarl? Or growl, or what? And what kind of breed was it? Or did it look like?

For me, I think it's probably chihuahua, just about every chihuahua I've met has either snapped at me, or bit me playfully, and it hurt. Or this lab that every time I walk past this fence is just sitting there in the yard and sticks its head out the fence and barks at us. I'm sure if we got close to it, it would bite.

Or there was a dog that bit me once, I don't know exactly what it was. I was kinda young, but it got loose of its owner, and it circled around me and lunged in and bit my leg, and jumped back out, and started to circle around me again, but its owner grabbed it by that point. It didn't really hurt, just kinda scary. I think it might've been a collie.

Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Westie, Chihuahua, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, Dachshund, or a Miniature Schnauzer?

Pros and Cons please? :D

Seems a bit cruel to me. I mean, it's understandable, since the dog was aggressive. But what ever happened to humanely euthanizing them? Doesn't the owner taking them out back and shooting them say something to you about the owner, not the dog, or the breed? I mean, if they're willing to do that with their dog, chances are they weren't training it right. :/

Before I ever really met a shih-tzu I didn't particularly like them, just because I prefer large dogs to small dogs, and I didn't think they were very cute. But after I have met a lot of them from working in a vet clinic, I just Fell in love! I think they are such sweet goofy dogs. Someday when I get a house, and more room, I will adopt a shih-tzu. I'm just wondering, how do you feel about the breed?
