She could have been and you didn't notice. You might want to have the vet check her out. Get her spayed.

There are a few possibilities. Silent heat cycles, or light heat cycles that you are missing. Some bi-tches will keep themselves very clean and cycles go un noticed. Some others have been known not to come in until 18 months or so. If she really is not having a cycle then you need to get her spayed because this can lead to Pyometra. She is high risk for it. It is life threatening and the only treatment is an emergency spay which cost around a grand more then a regular non emergency spay.

It really depends on the breed of dog. I have 2 8 month old GSD who have not been in heat and several years ago a Yorkie who had her first heat at 22months. Some is genetic and small dogs get their first heat later. If you are real worried have the vet check her but generally a dog who is not fertile will still get heat. It may be silent heat and nothing more as this is also more common in small dogs again do not worry.

All girls/women hit puberty at 12 yr too right? MY breed has an average of about 14 months and I have heard of first heat as late as 3 yrs. Most of those in the dog sports I'm in think late maturing girls are wonderful.

Make an appointment to get her spayed. No sense in being yet another backyard breeder or have an accidental breeding.

Lets hope so, there are enough unwanted puppies in the world. Why not get her spayed to be on the safe side
