I have owned pets from pomeranians to cocker spaniels to rottie's. They have all been wonderful! As long as you give them lots of love and attention, ANY dog would make a great family pet. Don't buy into how certain breeds are bad. It's all in how they pets are raised.
My recommendation is research, research, research. Pom's are great if you are looking for something small but labs are great for large dogs.
Be ready to love, love, love!

we've 3 toddlers, a protracted time 13, 9 and 6. We accompanied an 8 twelve months previous Chocolate Lab. This canine had by no potential been around youngsters, yet she at present became their terrific playmate. She takes turns sound asleep in anybody's beds at evening and is often up for a interest of fetch - indoors or out. Labs have a attractiveness for being large family contributors orientated canine. As for breeds that wouldnt do nicely with youngsters, i can not say from experience, yet i could hesitate to hold between the extra advantageous breeds right into a family contributors. (Rottweilers, Pitts, and so on. - even although I relatively have heard from those that those breeds could make impressive family contributors pets besides. )

A Pit bill.
Do you know what was considered as the "Nanny Dog" in the US and the UK during the 1920's and 1930's? The Pit Bull.
Do you remember the "Our Gang" movies, Little Rascals? Petey was a Pit Bull. Buster Brown shoes, "My dog Tige", yes, another Pit Bull.
STUBBY, Bull Terrier mix, WWI. The most decorated war dog in U.S. history.
The most popular family dog in the 1920's, the Pit Bull.
If you want to get a great dog for your family, think about a Pit Bull.
I have a Pit and when my daughter brought my grandson over for the first time, one month old, and sat him on the floor in his carrier the Pit went over and sat by him the whole time he was on the floor.
Pit Bulls are great family dogs!

I would probably go for a lab or australian shepherd. A lot of the larger dogs are great, but depending on where you live, you may want to be cautious about the breed. Many people are prejudiced about some dogs just based on what they look like. I have an lab/staff cross who has the staff markings, and people are afraid of her. The fact that her tail is wagging crazily doesn't matter to them. All that matters is that she has brown and black speckled fur and that she has a wider snout and therefore must be dangerous.

I would have to say ether a Kerry Blue Terrier, Bedlington Terrier, or a Standard Poodle. However, any dog can be a good family pet. It's the owners that turn it into a bad pet.

Labrador Retriever or Australian Shepherd! Smart, gentle family dogs, and very intelligent. They can remember lots of tricks and are pretty easy to care for. They will need lots of space in the backyard and exercise though, because they need lots and lots of running. And the Shepherd's fur will need a little care, but not as much as a very thick long-haired dog would.

I have had several dogs over the course of my life, and by FAR the best ones were Australian Shepherds. They are SO smart, affectionate, attentive, athletic, peaceful and friendly. They got along great with EVERYBODY.. Catch Frisbees, play ball, jog with you... GREAT dogs.

Find a GOOD breeder. They have taken the time to make sure their dogs are friendly and peaceful because they show them and don't want mean and aggressive dogs.

I would recomend a beagle, they are really friendly and are really good with kids. If your looking for a family pet I would stay away from the agressive dog breeds! If you want to adopt a pet you can go to www.petfinder.com, it's very helpful.

strangely enough, a lot of the large breeds are really good family pets. Bull mastiffs, sheepdogs, tibetan terriers, etc. are VERY gentle with kids. We have a tibetan and a bull mastiff mix. Both are as sweet and gentle as can be, even around newborns.
