Dogs can consume feces for many reasons. They may be lonely, they may be stressed. Or your dog could be lacking the important minerals it needs to survive, therefore it is trying to consume them by eating it's food twice.

If you don't think that your dog is having emotional issues, than please see a vet. A dog consuming it's own feces is dangerous as it could get many intestenal diseases.

Just think, all that your dog expels in its feces is unwanted from your dogs body. It could be eating bacteria or worms that may infect it and risk your dogs health.

This is going to sound silly - but it's because she's a DOG! Dogs are totally wonderful and terrific pets, but they are not people. My farm dog absolutely loves horse and cow poop too. I know that in the horse poop part of the attraction is the undigested grain, so I would guess that part of the attraction of dog poop would be partially digested food, too.
Make sure you worm your dog regularily as eating feeces can increase their parasite load. And here is a reason why you should wash your hands before eating after petting your dog!

Some dogs eat poop to keep the place clean. Mother dogs eat their little puppies' poop to keep the nest area clean.
Sometimes they need a dietary supplement because they are missing something in the diet.

It could be boredom, a deficiency, or as I have heard recently because there is still nutritional value to the stool and the dog scences that. It is their nature to get nutrition when and where they can, they are scavengers!
